It's just about that time for a dedicated thread. Ocean is looking GREAT the next few days!

We picked one up last week, 6lbs on the scale. Not terrible at all for an early fish. Who else is finding them?

So what channel are Garibaldi salmon fisherman using on VHF? I always thought it was 68, but I never hear anything on that channel. Is it 14? Love to share info if I know which station to give a shout out on.
BTW, I've heard the fish are really keying in on the "squirrel" pattern hoochie behind a spin fish. Inside info.... ssshhhhh. LOL Tight lines!

I was out tuna fishing a week ago. You had 2 women on the radio. One boat was Jamabalya the other was Ranger. They were definitely slow fishing. Trying to code talk where they were. +8 minus 7 divided by 6. Oh no, we’re + 11 minus 6 divided by pie R squared. One boat after 2 hours of CIA KGB talk says we have 11 onboard. The other boat came back and had 7.
I came on and said, just give your numbers because no one rushing to you because where you’re at sucks.

Wife and i went out today, was tougher to find the fish but once we did we got 4 pretty quickly (3 good sized coho, 1 king). Oddly only 1 fish was wild...

270fow towards Nehalem area, 55 on the line counter.

2 rods with:
16oz, 24" bumper, 11" chrome protroll flasher, 30" leader to ProTroll Black Eplug filled with canned tuna.

Was flat, no storms when we launched around 9am

Well. It was tough today. Moved all over the place. I know others were doing better than us, just didn’t have to mojo today. Around 3pm finally pushed out to a trash line I found in about 290’ of water in front of manzanita. Nailed a nice big boy but couldn’t scratch up another. Hit it on a spin fish green and pink. Built I know about everything was hitting hit equally today. Typical Coho fishing, just got a find a biting fish then it barely matters what you put in front of them. 12# and 28ā€.

We got our 10 by 1pm. Launched at 545. Wasn’t easy. Moved a lot. Caught fish at 140’ and 310’. One nice king, 9 nice coho. 7-11#. King was 18# on digital scale. Nothing stood out for bait and depth was from 11’ to 80’ on counters. It was one of those days you were in them or you weren’t. Jellies only bad on rip lines.

For you guys that are getting limits more consistently are you looking for a specific water temp or just getting on the fish wherever that is on any given day? When I was out last week it seemed the slightly warmer water was way out but I'm not sure if that was what I should look for other than getting away from the jelly fish:) Hoping to get back out in the next couple days so just trying to get dialed in a bit more.
Much obliged!

Here is a pretty good tutorial from Captain Jack Wagon. He and I fished multiple days this past week using this philosophy getting limits with in a couple hours. Yesterday Saturday it took a bit longer but we still put 10 on ice. We hit a cinco landing four of five which saved our bacon. We fished the same basic location each day but yesterday the fish keyed in on the color pink vs what we had been using. I guess the tip I would give is start the morning fishing a variety until you find what they want then give it to them.
I would also add that first pass in the morning we run rods at different depths until we find em. We don’t use line counters as we fish with Canadian mooching reels so we use the old pulls method. Just need to make sure everybody knows what a pull is. Reel to first guide.

Shoot I must be getting tired or old😜 I actually commented on that thread but already forgot some of the great info posted. Thanks for the reminder, I'll reread and hope it helps me find some fish. I think one thing that really isn't helping me is I fish solo much of the time so I only running the one rod, might need to try and mix it up more on the depth if I'm not hitting fish.

3 for us today. Would have had a lot more in the boat but had some beginner friends make some mistakes and a lot popped off. Talked to the fish checker and he said a lot of guys were getting them in close. Next time I’ll drop in close before shooting out to 200 or 300 fow. Anchovies and brads superbaits did well for us.

220' off the tips. 40' on the counter spin fish and tipped hootchie. Triple followed by double finished our six.

Final report for Monday sept 8.

Dropped three crab pots and told my buddy head west to 200 fow as I prepped the rods. Before I’m ready he yells 196. Ok. Guess we will start here.
First rod out to 25 feet. Click the bail and fish on! Fish off. Drive bye😤

Dam blind luck. No rhyme or reason to start there. Worked the area for the next three hours for our 6 coho limit. Should have been done in less than 2 but Broke two leaders-including the hot lure-twisted sister skinnie minnie and lost another skinnie Minnie tied up at the same time. Bad batch of mono?

took an hour to catch the limit fish!
Three hard drivebyes with peeling line on anchovies and helmet before the fourth bite sealed the deal.

probably 15? bites overall.
Pink spinner hootchie was 1/2
Skinnie Minnie’s were 3 for 7?
Anchovies 2/6? Accounted for the last 4 bites
Released one jack.
25-30 on the line counter with divers

rockfish at three arches was slow.
6 blacks and one 26ā€ ling.
got the blacks mostly casting a 2 oz lancer jig and retrieve near the surface to finning fish.
spot locked over many big schools of midwater and deeper fish but only a couple of those bit and only on anchovies. They wouldn’t touch swim baits or lancers.
