2023 Detroit Lake Reports

It's time to start a new year of fishing. Please remember to report your catches. There are now two types of fin clips in Detroit. Adipose only and Adipose/Ventral clip. The Ventral clipped fish are still small so release them if you can but make sure to mark them on your reports. Good luck and tight lines from the KPO.

Looks like the water level will be below the ramp.

I hadn't checked the level yet. Thanks for the word.
If it gets too low you could always try by

Whats level is the ramp usable?
I believe 1450 is the minimum level to use the winter launch at Mongold.

This link has the depths required for all the different launches on the lake.

Last time I went at 1455 it was an easy launch but close to impossible to get it back on the trailer. Someone from the county created a bluff with a backhoe while I was out there.
Back when I exclusivity fished out of the drifter, water levels didn't really mean a whole lot. Lowest I've launched a big boat at is 1455 and we were in some mud., but not bad. I'm hoping it gets back up sometime soon. I can see why the county had to put up the birm. They probably got tired of hearing about people getting stuck. 😄
Thinking about hitting Detroit Saturday.

Anyone else headed that way?

Just got a radio installed - would share intel for a radio test.

channel?

You think it's doable at this level?

winter ramp at Mongold should be good at 1450.

I haven’t been since mid September.

A friend and I ran up to a snowy, frigid, and stunning day of winter fishing today. Splashed at 915am and hot dogged around for a few minutes before deploying the gear. We were one of 4 boats out there. The weather was a brisk 29 degrees, sunny, and glass for water with no sign of any wind all day.

There was some logs and debris fields to troll around and dodge when under power. There was also some frisky fish to play with.

Biggest of the day was an almost 16 inch rainbow. The rest of the keeper sized and up fish were some growing kokes. Biggest koke was 12 inches. We lost as many as we were landing. Setback was 150' or more with flat lined chrome and UV stickered dodgers with orange hoochies was the hot colors. We caught lot of little guys as well. Came home with 7 fish. Dinner is here. I love these clear, windless winter days!

It’s nice to get out, get some fish and run the boat in February. Good report, thanks.
