We’re looking at ~70-80 elk. They’re still coming up the draws from the pivots so I expect more will follow. Several bulls but the biggest is a small 6. The 6 and a 5x5 just had a battle royale in front of us. The 6x6 won. Lots of screaming.
And they’re all on private at the moment

Exciting! The big bulls are usually last!

Always wondered how 80 elk can blend in so well with the trees as the move along a draw hillside.

Hands bloody yet?!
not yet. We’re going to move spots. No shooters here (at least not today; maybe for later in the week).
Was an awesome morning so far. Saw 10-12 branch antlered bulls. Lots of bugling.

Any of them cross onto public ground?
We left late morning. There were two guys archery hunting close to the fence. The elk were above them maybe 4-500 yards (as far as I could tell from where I was sitting). The elk bedded but then moved further into the private. Not sure if the archery guys spooked them or something else did. We left after they moved over the ridge.
We saw another bull in a different place later in the morning - but also just inside the property line of private. And a few cows in PM.
I’m back where I was this morning but it’s void of elk at the moment. I’ll be back here in the am.

I have a bunch screaming to my east. Not sure if they’re on private or blm. I’m pinned down with a herd coming up the draw towards me - on BLM. Not sure if he’s a shooter yet or not.

unfortunately my buddy turned his foot on a rock yesterday and he’s back at camp. Another friend showing up this (unless I get done this morning).

Sounds like your having a good time. I’d imagine the elk winded the archery guys after the thermals switched mid morning. It should get much less crowded after today. You will be the only person with a valid tag until deer season starts.

Shoot it!
A good friend is making the trip over this afternoon from Vancouver. He’s excited to hear and see all the elk I’m seeing. I have all week off. I’ll get another opportunity and hopefully one bigger - there’s bigger ones in here. Maybe I’ll shoot that same bull later this week. Who knows. But not today

What a cool hunt and opportunity. Stay heavy on that trigger, it's likely a once in a lifte time hunt. Once you pull the trigger it's over. You'll know when it's time to shoot!!!

When it is over, have a cold whisky for the iFish Crew!! lol

Last night we found a 5x5 with about 15-20 elk. Only glassed him at distance. He just have been in the wallow as he was completely black.
We saw a several deer and a real boomer of a buck.
This morning back to where I’ve been hunting the last few days. Passed on a 5x5. Most of the elk are on private.
