Just got off the phone w/ my old fishing friends up north....looks like the rivers are getting ravaged again for the second time in less than ten years! HMM....and they said it wouldn't happen anytime soon.

Rivers in BC and Wash. are way over their banks...poor salmon that had just spawned just had their redds scoured badly. This is NOT good news.

I guess we lucked out down here this time....imagine if our rivers were 10+ feet over the banks!

There was a short article in this afternoon's local paper about the Skagit. It was supposed to crest at 38' tonight at Mt. Vernon which is 10' above flood stage.

They're getting soaked and we're in short sleeve weather!

Used to live on the skagit in several places, Hamilton, Concrete, Mt.Vernon and Burlington.
Flood seasons are a way of life up there.
Every year the High schools allow limited attendance for sand bagging and such, and many towns and homes end up in sandbag dams to keep the water out.
The area is great and the fishing is good too...but the swelling rivers and heavy rains with snow melt are just a way of life there.
