Default Team eyeFISH Jr League - Spoon-fed Silvers

S-P-O-O-N-S : A game of frantic fast-paced action that my kids just love. (SHHHHHH... the grownups love it, too!). Be it playing card games or fishing for silvers, it all adds up to FUN FUN FUN!

We just let the bent metal out the back of the boat and spoon-fed all the willing biters.

Check out this parade of spoon-fed tidewater silvers from the lower Kenai.

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW: Drake with a pretty hen on a rainbow spoon.

COPPER HOOK: His Daddy Art with another hen caught on copper... scales just go flyin' when these freshies hit the net!

PRETTY IN PINK... this buck was definitely in touch with his feminine side.

CHROME AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW: The rainbow spoon was a definitely a HOT coho producer:

SWINGIN' SPOONS: Drake proves a change in presentation is sometimes just the ticket!

TOP BRASS: Red green and yellow medals adorn this hardworking soldier. Low-flow silvers sure liked it!

RAINBOW REPRISE:

LOOK MOM, NO BAIT! Even my bait-slingin' brother converted over to bent metal.

HALF-N-HALF FOR A HALF-PINT: LMWS figured copper and chrome would look real pretty in the bright sun... she figured right!

RR.
Limit is TWO fish.

All tidewater Kenai silvers in my boat MUST get the wood shampoo. Kill two fish and you're thru fishing for the day.

Release mortality is at least 70% on these extremely fragile fish... virtually 100% if they are bleeding. As WRO once posted, you just have to look at these fish cross-wise, and they die right before your eyes.

ADFG's very own handling mortality on tidewater coho for research projects is 40%.... and that is without a hooking event and the associated stress of a battle on the end of a line!

These are NOT a good C&R fish by any stretch of the imagination, so the rod is retired after killing the first two.... PERIOD.

Most years it's a struggle to limit the boat in the lower river the first week of August. It's do-able but you gotta work for your fish. 2008 was a different story.... best dam silver fishing I've experienced in at least 10 seasons.

Amazing what happens when the gillnet fleet is sitting idle on the beach.

Very nice!

Are those spoons weighted at all (e.g., lead weight off a dropper), or just casted/retrieved/drifted as-is with no additional weight added?

He was definitly around Beaver and Mud when I saw him... Fishing is still good on the bluff and sporatic other places. The later in the season the faster the silvers move through the lower river. The week of EyeFish post I had four clients casting Kodiak Custom Spinners and landed 13 and lost 6! Things have slowed down this week and the Pinks have moved above Beaver Cr.
