Default Jerry Garcia - 25 years later

Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia will be honored in a nine-day livestream event hosted by the Rex Foundation and the Jerry Garcia Family.

The event, christened Daze Between, will feature exclusive live music performances and storytelling, and will take place August 1st through 9th this year to mark the 25th anniversary of Garcia’s death. Proceeds will benefit the Rex Foundation, Grateful Dead’s nonprofit organization created in 1984.

What a long strange trip it's been.

A nine day jam?
I don't think even Trey Anastasio can top that

Grateful Dead. First concert I ever went to. University of California Santa Barbara. Maybe 1975. Oh, wait. I'm lying. When I was about 12 my parents took me to see Neal Diamond at the Hollywood Bowl. Not sure if that really counts.

25 years ago I was delivering packages in the Laurelhurst neighborhood in NE Portland. I kept hearing some music that sounded like the Dead. I thought maybe some roofers were rocking out on a job site somewhere. Turns out I was missing a celebration of life in Laurelhurst Park in SE Portland. Then I started seeing some tie dyes getting on and off TriMet.
I sure miss me some Jerry.
RIP

I've got a couple of Jerry's ties. Never listened to his music.

If you tallied up the amount of hours phish has played live it'd probably be a decade. They were touring right up until covid, last date performed feb 2020, bet he's going through serious withdrawal. If anything those guys (Garcia included) are a testament to how harmless psychedelics are. Still remember their chords at that age after swimming in drugs for half a century, and still holding it together. There are meds prescribed by doctors that cause way more cognitive decline over time.

When I was a student at the UofO, my plan was to finish college in a few years, and before I started life in the "real world" I wanted to work for a little bit, save up to buy a VW Camper bus and tickets to about 20 shows, and follow the Dead for the summer. My plan was to graduate and do this in the summer of 1998. Then in the summer of 1995 when I was about to start my sophomore year, Jerry suddenly died and the music stopped. One of my biggest disappointments in life. I still feel blessed to have seen them on 3 different tours though (1993 Autzen, 1994 Autzen, and 1995 Portland Meadows).

I used to see them jamming when I worked in San Francisco and went to SF State. They lived in the panhandle area near Golden Gate Park. I started working there in 1966, so that era.

Was it Jerry that wanted to televise his death?
Or maybe it was Timothy Leary?

A wife of a co-worker from many years ago told me a story of when she saw the Warlocks play live somewhere. It may have been Berkeley but I'm not sure of that.
She said after the show she came out to find she had a flat tire on her car. She said Jerry G. was kind enough to change it for her.

I was watching the "Daze Between" and saw Norah Jones doing "It Must Have Been The Roses."

I was watching the "Daze Between" and saw the Counting Crows doing "I Know You Rider."

And many more.
