Pump the brakes. They closed state managed wildlife areas and boat ramps. Fishing and hunting seasons are not affected per WDFW Twitter and WDFW website.

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) today announced its decision to temporarily close recreational fishing and shellfishing statewide in the wake of Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s order directing Washingtonians to stay home and stay healthy to limit the spread of coronavirus/COVID-19.

The closures will begin at midnight Wednesday, March 25 and last until at least 5 p.m. on April 8, 2020. WDFW will re-evaluate on April 6 whether the closure may need to be extended.

The AUP prevents me from saying what I really think about this stuff. Is there a more naturally self-isolating passion than fishing -- at least from shore or streamside?

Great, increase fishing travel to Oregon. Didn't want to see it happen but they better close Oregon to fishing also.

IF Oregon was smart, they would keep fishing open to capitalize on the sudden rise of nonresident license sales.

Where, when and how to we get a license refund? That’s only fair right.

I can see what's gonna happen already....this is going to be a thread of threats to WDFW and everyone freaking out about having shelled out the dollars for a license. TAKE A DEEP BREATH! Now....TAKE ANOTHER DEEP BREATH.

These are unprecedented times and everyone is bumbling and stumbling around trying to figure out the best way to go about this. Reactionary impulses are something we are very good at as a human race since this is how we seem to deal with most things.

Gonna have to let this play out and not get all bent out of shape. Is it frustrating? Hell yes it is! We all need to just keep our cool as I'm sure some sort of considerations will be implemented for the shortened fishing season. Let's just hope it's temporary.

Hang in there folks, I feel what you're feeling. None of us are unique in the sense that we have an addiction to the outdoors and being around the house for extended periods of time will drive us nuts. WE NEEED TO REMAIN CALM.
Love and health to all!

There were 3 trailers at the Gleason ramp. Mybuddy and I (household member) drove separately and were 5’ apart is an open boat. Wearing gloves.

I saw no boats full of people.

Talked to the checker from 10’ away.

If we follow the rules we shouldn’t be punished.

Btw. I observed 3 county employees cleaning the restrooms.

I'm certain there won't be any form of refund. At best we might get a few extra weeks in June (that we would likely have gotten anyway).

I'm with you. If they do this oregon I dont want to see any joggers. Nobody walking their dog. Nobody riding bikes. Paddle boarding for fun. None of that. I went fishing today. Didn't get anywhere near anyone. Fished alone in my boat far away from people. When I was pulling the boat out there was a bunch of people at the dog park. Groups of 4 riding bikes and jogging. I mean come on people. Fishing is as far away from people as it gets. At least boat fisheris.

Exactly, I was watching the Cowlitz river cam and people were exercising perfect social distancing. The boats were 6 feet apart. There were 3 - 5 people on each.......OH, wait...... never mind.

Here’s what my ODFW’s page has to say right now. Hopefully they stay open, as I can practice social distancing with my household in a boat or on a beach.

“Is it safe to go hunting, fishing or wildlife viewing?
According to the Oregon Health Authority Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) it is OK provided everyone is healthy before you go (e.g. people who are stick should stay home) and if everyone practices social distancing with friends. See the Oregon Health Authority site for the most current information and recommendations regarding COVID-19.

What about Governor Brown’s Executive Order telling people to stay at home?
The Executive Order issued on March 23 does not close hunting and fishing. Seasons remain open. ODFW also continues to stock trout at this time as shown in the trout stocking schedule.

If you do go hunting and fishing, you need to maintain social distance of at least six feet from other people who are not a part of your household, including during travel to and from your destination.

Hunters and anglers should also minimize travelling to hunt and fish and find a destination close to home. Coastal communities, the Columbia River Gorge and other popular travel destinations were inundated with visitors the weekend of March 21-22, which led in part to Governor Brown’s Executive Order.”

I envision a closure of the Columbia probably by tomorrow? I mean how do you allow Oregon anglers to fish the Columbia but not WA anglers? I have to admit this closure makes me feel like I'm an Idaho springer fisherman hoping for a piece of the pie.

WDFW is the bully in our region so, look for ODFW to fold tomorrow like the leaderless agency they are. Besides, they have our license $, they can say anything as a reason to close fishing. Two states governors who have national political aspirations.

How can Willy be open?? Now that just a prelude to closure of fishing in all. That by morning or next day will close Willy too along with all kind of fishing. Common sense dictates if Columbia is closed, crowd will turn to Willy which means more ppl in proximity. Not wishing for it but closing C will help in adverse to what state or country is trying to achieve. I mean do they not think of this???

Geez guys, people are dying worldwide, and PNW cases are about to spike.

I will gladly give up fishing for the next month or two or three if it means fewer people get sick or die, and it limits the OVERALL damage of this pandemic.

I've cancelled and turned away trips. I could really use that money, but ultimately this problem is bigger than my need or desire to fish.

Let's squash this thing, keep our families and neighbors healthy, and be thankful and more patient with each other when we get the green light to go back to normal life.

Don't be like the selfish turds that flooded the coast last weekend. Let's lead by example. We're willing to give up the thing we love most for the greater good.

Maybe karma will reward you with the fish of a lifetime, at the right time.

This isn't a government conspiracy, it isn't sport versus commercial, it's literally life and death.

C'mon man, we're not all guides like you apparently are, and don't fish to make money. It's absolutely ridiculous to think I could be fishing in my sled solo on the Cowlitz and pose a risk to anyone in another boat or on the bank. This is political, not science-based.

GIVE THIS MAN A GOLD STAR!! Really, put aside your selfish personal reasons for wanting to recreate right now and stay home. The sooner you do, the sooner we can all go back to our normal lives.

The problem is our society has proven we can't follow the rules. I bet you can fish all alone, you're not the problem.

The problem is I have pictures from TODAY of folks I know being loose with the social distancing rules on the water.

Did you see what happened at the coast Saturday?

What happens at the boat ramps if springers start to bite?

We're all known for being patient and orderly and keeping our distance?

I can't take my son to Coffenbury lake to chase the recycled steelhead and stocker trout in there right now because our society was told on Friday to "Stay home, Stay Healthy", and Saturday 10s of thousands were here violating ALL the rules.

So it stinks that you're being punished for others actions, just like me, but let's get through this.

Oregon Columbia is open to all fishing except for salmon and steelhead.

OK, but you have to admit it's a joke that pot shops and liquor stores that also sell anything resembling food remain open (at least here in WA), because they are "essential". Like I said, this is politics, not science.

I think the point is that it is o.k. (even encouraged) to recreate. Unfortunately, a percentage of the population has single digit I.Q.s and screws it up for everybody that does it the way it is supposed to be done. Like boot camp, where some dumb s.o.b. extends P.T. time 30 minutes by doing something really stupid.

As of today fishing is still open in Oregon but I can see it being closed and soon for the simple reason that people Won't/Can't follow the rules. Still seeing WA, CA, NV and AZ plates even one from OH on the few times I've gone out for supplies. I know I'll be tying a ton of jigs for next fall.

I'm going to build that stone wall in my backyard I've been putting off for 6 months. Then I'm going to repaint the interior trim in my house. Then I'm going to finish cleaning and organizing the garage.

Now I have to plant some new trees in my front yard. Just took down 5 large maples that trashed my drift boat.

I have plenty to keep my busy for a few...... DAYS. After that, I'm going fishing.

Let em ticket me..........

I guess they would rather have folks utilizing those substances legally, rather than addicts ignoring am the rules to get their fix via black market, or ingesting unsafe substances for their fix that cause medical issues and further strain on our healthcare system.

I haven't touched weed in over two decades, and can live without booze. I've got a few beers in the spare fridge, and a bottle of Rogue stouted whiskey that is phenomenal.

I have a client from New York that predicted this shelter in place 2 weeks ago. It's bad there and we want no part of it.

I'm still in touch with the German exchange student we hosted last year and his parents. We want no part of what Italy and parts of Europe are going through either according to them.

People are dying. The goal should be that none of us ever know anyone affected by the virus.

I don't want to see a thread about an ifisher lost to the virus.

So you guys arent going to the grocery store, right? Theres no arguing that going to the grocery store just once puts me around more people than I'll see in 1 week if not a whole month of fishing.

Love how it's only RECREATIONAL fishing. Like somehow it's essential for some guy who doesn't live in the PNW that he still gets his columbia river salmon shipped to him. Wonder when sports fishermen and women are going to actually get a voice in what happens up here instead of continually getting steamrolled into paying more for less and less opportunity. Let's keep buying them licenses though.
