Default Chris Petersen steps down at Udub

Just saw that Chris Petersen stepped down from the Huskies. Come back to Eugene, Chris, and be the Ducks O.C. Please! With sugar on top!

Coaching football, especially big time D1 college is a horrible job. Yes they are well compensated, but its still an absolute meat grinder. They are human, love their families, like being healthy and he has enough money to sit on the rest of his life. Good for him.

Washington will not make a bowl next year and yes they will offer Jonathan Smith a dump truck load of money to come back.

Nope on the Jonathan Smith thing.
They already named a new head coach.....defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake.

Beavs will win 8 or 9 next season. As danger wrote, Huskies don't make a bowl. Lake will be fired, Smith gets an offer.

I wouldn’t count on a UW stumble. They return almost the entire group of starters with Eason still to decide. If anything, they’ll be better than this year.

Coach Petersen is a class act, I wish him well.

Where would the Ducks be if they had hired him instead of Helfrich?

he never seemed to be all that happy at UW like he was at Boise. Jimmy Lake won’t last long either

The problem the HuckinFuskies keep running into is their expectation the next head coach will be another Dogfather.
Maybe CP got tired of that fantasy world where no new coach will ever measure up to their unachievable standards.

Spot on!!! Huskies think they're a perennial power house program. They've had a few good teams but other than those they've always been mediocre.

Well, they have won a National Championship. Aren’t they the only team in the PAC 12 North that has?

Otherwise, they won the PAC 12 Championship in 2016 and 2018.

I think that makes them “pretty” good.

Even Bama has periods of time that they weren’t very good. If you don’t believe it, go look up their history.

If you think the Fuskys are on an even par with Alabama, then your in a fantasy world.

The point was Huskies would make it a game when Bama and Huskies were each at their worst.

Good chance they don’t go to the National Championship. Ran a totally different system than what the Ducks had going at the time. Helfrich was a great offensive coach, but bad recruiter and needed a good D Coordinator to assist. Would have loved to see what he could have done with the O the last couple years.

I gotta disagree. Coach Helf had Marcus Mariota for his first two years as head coach which camouflaged a bunch of his shortcomings. 2015 the Ducks lost to Utah in a HISTORIC beatdown at Autzen; and there was that Alamo Bowl total and complete meltdown. 2016, 4-8 including losing the Civil War.

I think Helf was an intelligent guy, a decent talent scout, and a decent QB coach. As a head coach, he sucked and the players who played under him at Oregon will tell you that themselves. He had no control of his teams and poor instincts as a head coach including his hires of assistants. I work with someone who was a personal friend of his and he was just a miserable person after Marcus left.

When the Beavs won their back to back baseball championships Notre Dame (I think) threw a ton of money at Casey. Beav AD went to Phil and meekly asked for help. "How much do you need?" was the reply. I think Phil knows that what is good for OSU is also good for Oregon (the state) and for Nike, and I would not be surprised if he were to step in to help keep Jonathon.

I’ve said this on other threads that OSU needs to open their check book and sign him to a long term deal for a truck load of money. I’m no Beaver fan but he’s a good coach but I just see OSU doing that.

The problem for OSU is, he’s worth what his next job will pay him, which is likely more than OSU is able to pay.

True but if you can sign him to a extension at least if he leaves the college that gets him will have to pay OSU back some money. FSU had to pay UofO something like 3 million to sign Slick Willie

To date Smith hasn't done anything, so saying he'll get shunted away from OSU for the big bucks is a tiny bit premature don't you think?
Maybe just wait and see what he can really do, then talk about big money.

I think we see programs betting on the future all the time. Smith makes $1.9 mil, not including performance incentives, and his buyout structure makes him an attractive hire for another program.

I think he is headed to Dallas. The OC is one of his best preforming QB's at Boise, Kellen Moore.

Maybe he'd put Kellen in as the starting qb and Dallas would probably win the next super bowl.

Assuming you are content with career accomplishments and have enough money, it’s a good call to retire. I’m assuming he’s probably got plenty of money. He’s won the PAC 12 Championship a couple of times, and it’s probably going to be a long time before a PAC 12 team wins the NC again in football.

Actually,
It was after they lost the Rose Bowl in the 1994 Season.
At least, that’s how I heard it.

Now he has to face BSU in his final game at the Las Vegas bowl.

BSU has the highest winning percentage in all of college football and better not let me down.

Here are the top 15 teams in all-time win percentages:

Boise State 459-169-2 . 7301
Ohio State 923-325-53 . 7298
Michigan 962-345-36 . 7297
Notre Dame 907-326-42 . 728
Alabama 915-331-43 . 727
Oklahoma 907-326-53 . 726
Texas 915-375-33 . 704
USC 847-350-54 . 699
Nebraska 902-395-40 . 690
Penn State 897-393-41 . 689
Tennessee 845-395-53 . 674
Florida State 550-263-17 . 673
Georgia 830-424-54 . 6552
LSU 809-415-47 . 6550
App. State 628-336-29 . 647
