Default It's what's for dinner!

Bill went out this morning in the rain, groaning and moaning because the dogs needed to run. I yelled down from the bedroom deck, "Oh, it's awful out! Hang in there!"

Hang in, he did!

Caught on a trout rod with a small green bodied silver bladed blue fox spinner.

Too funny! The odd thing is that these fish are not planted on the Kilchis. They are strays and we get VERY few. So few that I have them all named.

This was Curtis.

Curtis Steelgato, to be exact.

Jen

...and meet Rev, who was walking behind Bill, licking the steelhead all the way.

Get out the antibiotics, Bill. It may be time!

That's a great looking summer...... I know a Curtis...... he doesn't look near as good as that one does.

Congrats to Bill for hanging in there and hooking up with a fantastic fish....

Smile Re: It's what's for dinner!

Indeed, that steelie was a pleasant surprise. I'd caught and released about a l# cutthroat in the hole below just minutes before then moved upstream where I pitched the spinner under some brush at the top of the hole. When first hooked, I thought it to be a giant cutthroat and mumbled to myself -- no one to witness it --no camera to record it (all catch and release on cutts). My first thoughts had been of the 23" cutthroat of my dreams! As the battle continued, I saw the fish better and realized it was indeed a summer steelie and fin clipped at that. I finally slid it up the gravel bar where I bonked it -- the first fish I have decided to keep this year and was it ever yummy cooked with Jennies new recipe on the Traeger.

I think that this fish had just entered the river as thhe rain the day before had raised it about 3". I'll bet that anyone fishing the lower Wilson that day may have done well with the slight rise in the river and change of weather as my fish was just a stray from the real run of summers which go up the Wilson.
