Just checked my email and have one from Wyoming Game and Fish letting me know applications will be open January 1!! Will likely be back there again in 2019 chasing antelope, not sure yet if I will cash in my 9 deer preference points or not??? Have my eye on a particular unit but just not sure if its worth the 9 points or not, will wait a bit to decide.

Good luck to all in 2019 draws

I’d really like to go heavy into the draws but time to hunt is the biggest factor. Planing on archery elk in Wyoming though.

Going to start buying points in Wyoming for deer and pronghorn. Gotta get my uncle on board, too. Seems like you can have some great opportunities for both critters with just a few points. Plus doe tags for pronghorns. But you all know this already! I’m late to the game!

Wow! Early rifle... must have been ausome. I don’t recall seeing that one.. maybe you are saving for a magazine or something? Or more than likely I just missed it.
Well with the change a few years back you are back in the running! Heck you might even get a strip tag!

Good luck on the draws

It didn't suck, it was one of the low end units not a famous one. Saw plenty of bulls, passed a couple low 300s bulls looking for a giant that i saw scouting. Ended up having to get home for a family emergency so i just killed a bull day 3. Super fun hunt, especially because i drew it with no points.

No regrets really, if the 370 bull i was chasing would've stayed in the unit, whole different story.. It's way better than hunting Oregon.

I'm getting the itch to start burning points out-of-state. I have 8 across the board in Wyoming, 11 in AZ for elk, and the wife has 12 in Utah for everything.

I'm thinking about MT archery elk & Idaho Rifle Deer for sure, and throw my hat in the ring for something in AZ and Utah for the wife. The elk hunt I want in WY is a year or two away. I'll probably burn my WY loper points in the near future taking the kids on something fun.

Notice I purposely left out anything in this terrible state. I'll pass the time hunting here but I'm not really interested in the rat race anymore for forkies.

Planning to cash in max elk points in Wyoming this year and start being able to hunt a general tag every few years in the future. Maybe a late Coues tag in Arizona or a 3rd season Colorado buck tag to go with it. Decision, decisions....

That late season Coues deer hunt is probably the most fun I have ever had on a deer hunt. Lots of them so spot and stalk is a blast if you are bow hunting. Just need to get up into the mountains and they are all over the place.

Oregon. Just sucks. Seriously 4-7 pts for a general quality unit anywhere else in the west. I missed AK moose.

That they are! Buddy and I decided to cash in this year and make due with the points we have (9) and just go have a good time. Unfortunately for my buddy, he didn't wind up drawing. Fortunately for me, he did pick up his "calling permit".. ; ) Provided his number gets pulled next year, we'll just swap positions behind the bow.

Besides, we won't have to workout as hard to get in shape before season if we only have to pack one bull, right?

That’s a good strategy! I think we’re gonna have to start alternating who draws and not draw three tags in a single year. As much as tags cost and the likelihood of filling all three tags, it’d probably be better to maybe draw two tags and then build a point?

Yep - you're spot on. Our reasoning: one elk is enough meat between our two families, odds were better individually than as a party, cost, we have two weeks but it still can be tough to get a bull down in that time, much less multiple, and it'll give us an excuse to go back again in a year or two to work on his tag. Besides, now we don't have to argue about who gets to do the calling!

Shocked that I didn't draw Wilson/Trask bear this year. I thought there was always more tags given than 1st choice apps? Maybe the change with the SW tag changed things up. Super bummed. Wonder how many of those got drawn and will never get hunted?

Last year was first year more applied then tags available.

Of course 75% of those folks won’t even hunt.

I blame that trend on Ifish. Everyone talking about how cool bear hunting is.

Must be A LOT more apps. Three of us applied separately and not a single tag between us. Crazy considering how few bears are killed on this tag. Prettt bummed we didn’t draw. Already have our bottomfish/springer trip booked with Ted Teufel on May 20th. We had a great time with him last year loading the freezer with lings, rockfish and crabs before our bear hunt. Bummed.

When it’s the closest to PDX of course it will now sell out. Tags haven’t been cut, hunter recruitment is supposedly on the downhill, and now over 400 apply for this tag last 2 years.

Why the popularity all of a sudden? I can only guess. “Roll eyes”.

I imagine lack of salmon fishing plays a part too.

Hunting partner drew 22 north late elk after drawing 27 late elk last year! Looks like we're headed south again this year.

Unit 10 archery, Sept. 13-26
Supposedly about a 10% chance with 8 points lots of big bulls.

Anyone with any info about the unit? Half of the unit is the Big Boquillas ranch and has a hunters fee of $110.

I'm retired and live about 2 1/2 hours away so I can get out and scout but the ranch part doesn't open to scouting until Aug. 2 so I'll be limited but it still should be fun.
