ID:	68473John Childs is a typical Total Fisherman, he loves doing it all! Whether it's Columbia River, Chinook Salmon, Pacific Albacore Tuna, or chasing Wahoo and Marlin in the beautiful blue waters of Mexico, John has a fishing addiction. You can reach John at 503-799-9782 or email him at [email protected] if you have any questions regarding any of John’s trips.
One of the many things that make John so successful on the water is his ability to be so open-minded, “I try to learn something new every time I’m on the water. I want to make every day count, and by being observant I've learned some great secrets about fish behavior.” John’s philosophy is simple, “I really enjoy sharing my love of fishing with my customers while helping them enjoy their time off.” This approach makes fishing in John’s boat so relaxing.

Default Explore Molalla River Fish Populations

On June 20th the Molalla Steelheaders are proud to present Steve Trask of Bio-Surveys. Steve will be presenting the most in depth assessment of fish populations the Molalla River has ever seen. If you are curious of where certain species of fish call home within the drainage and where to target them, you do not want to miss this meeting. This presentation will make you a better angler. Steve and his team spent two summers snorkeling the entire Molalla River and all of Milk Creek. The data derived from two years of a Rapid Bio Assessment of the Molalla River forms a picture of population densities and how these populations are distributed throughout the basin. Steve Trask led the surveys, and he will discuss where the bulk of the winter steelhead are rearing, how far into the upper drainage coho are present, how many summer steelhead remain in the river, the natural reproduction success of spring chinook, where resident trout are hanging out, and population densities of warm water species and non game fish. This is the best monitoring of Molalla’s fish populations the river has ever had, so if you are curious about Molalla fish, this is one meeting you won’t want to miss! I expect to see all of you there. I am very excited, you should be too!

The Molalla Chapter of the NW Steelheaders meets every third Thursday of the month at 6:30pm located at the Farmstead Restaurant & Pub, 28313 S. Highway 213, Molalla, OR.
As always: these meetings are open to the public. Dinner and drinks are available throughout the duration of the meeting.

Default Columbia River Chapter Meeting - July 10th

This month’s meeting will feature Kimber Roberts. Kimber just completed her first fishing symposium on “bait curing”, is a Rep for “FethaStix” fishing rods, and an accomplished fisherwoman. She fishes both from the bank and her boat and is quite successful. Kimber is our chapter Membership Director and works part time in the fishing industry as well. She lives, breathes and dreams about fishing.
Kimber will be instructing members this month on several successful ways to bank fish for Chinook and Steelhead in our local area. Kimber will demonstrate bait techniques (tuna balls, eggs, coon shrimp), plunking set up’s, basic plunking gear (what works and what doesn’t), double bank set ups, IF… you have EVER wanted the inside scoop on HOW and WHERE to fish successfully from the bank in our area, DON’T MISS THIS CLINIC.

When: July 10, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Pied Pipers Pizza
12300 NE 4th Plain Rd Vancouver, WA

Who:
Carmen Macdonald, Ifish blogger, sportfishing advocate, and Vaunt Marketing
partner
What:

Molalla Steelheaders September meeting
When:

6:30 pm Thursday, Sept. 19,
2013.
Where:

Farmstead Restaurant in
Arrowhead Golf Course, 28301 S. Hwy.
213, just north of Molalla

Guest Speaker Carmen Macdonald grew up on the banks of the Clackamas River and his professional life has included advertising and marketing work for fishing
industry-leading brands like Luhr-Jensen, Storm, Blue Fox, Okuma Fishing Tackle, Fisherman’s Marine & Outdoor and TUFLine. Carmen has also maintained close involvement with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for more than 15 years.

Recently, Carmen’s article for his Ifish blog “Anti hatchery or anti angler” has caused a stir in sportfishing circles. His interest is the management philosophy that has reduced the number of hatchery salmon and steelhead released in area rivers in order to increase
the strength of wild stocks. Carmen will share the measurable results, or lack thereof, that he’s been able to identify and offer his views of the questions anglers should be asking of management staff in order to judge the strength of the anti-hatchery philosophy on Oregon’s fishing future.

All Molalla Steelheaders meetings are free and open to the public. Raffle tickets are available to win fishing tackle, with all proceeds going to the chapter’s efforts to enhance fishing opportunity on the Molalla River. Food and drinks are available before, during and after the meeting.

brought to you by the MOLALLA STEELHEADERS:

The Upper Willamette has been overtaken by a run of naturally produced Coho Salmon. A product of a discontinued hatchery program these fish have seem some great runs in the recent past. This year is no different. Approaching 20,000 fish over Willamette Falls right now, this year could end up being one of the best ever for the Upper Willamette and its tributaries. Open for retention of unmarked (wild) coho its time to get out and get acquainted with these fish.
Tom Murtagh is a fish biologist with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife that has been actively monitoring these Coho as they return. As recent as 2009 & 2010 he helped conduct a radio tag survey to determine where these fish are returning to and what paths they take to get there. Tom has a great presentation to share with everyone regarding their findings, what the management plan is and will be going forward regarding this remarkable run of fish. After his presentation, Tom has agreed to open the floor to a question and answer format. So, please bring any and all questions you may have for Tom.
The public is welcome to join us for a fun and educational meeting for everyone.
6:30 PM, October 17th at Farmstead Restaurant, 28313 S Hwy 213, Molalla, OR
Dinner and drinks are available before and during the meeting.

Greetings folks

I did a search on this already and didn't find anything so if I am asking a redundant question sorry.

Is there a group that concentrates on the Siletz/Drift Crk area either specifically or generally?

I lived in AK most my life and began fly fishing for steelhead/rainbows the last couple years before moving here somewhat recently.

I am a novice fly fisherman but a life long fisherman otherwise. Hoping to learn somethings and get out this winter for steelhead.

Hi, Walknbob. In terms of fishing groups, not really or at least not that I know of. The Steelheaders Mid-Valley Chapter does some stuff with the Siletz, but the meet in Albany. The Alsea Sportsman Association also does some stuff with Siletz. There is a Siletz Watershed Council.

If you didn't make it this year, there's always next year, and you'll probably come away from it with stuff you would buy throughout the year at a bargain price. Photos of the event are posted on the Steelheaders Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...9038917&type=1. You can also check out the vid we produced the event at our YouTube channel here

Professional fishing guide and radio host of the 'Northwest Outdoor Show', Lance Fisher will be our guest December 19th at 6:30pm to discuss his proven tactics to target winter steelhead. Lance Fisher is a native Oregonian and has fished since he was able to hold a rod. Lance began his life as a guide in 2001 and over the years has personally hosted thousands of clients, both private and corporate.

Over the years Lance has written and photographed for numerous regional and... national publications, providing fellow anglers tips and tactics for cold water fishing. He currently writes for Fishwire.net, which is a site devoted entirely to Cold Water Fisheries. This knowledge and love for the sport has translated into a weekly radio show, Northwest Ourdoor Show, for which Lance has hosted for over 10 years now.

Chasing winter steelhead has become second nature to Lance, so join us as he covers multiple techniques that he uses to target our favorite fish in several different area rivers. Lance has more information that one person should be allowed to have. Don’t miss it!

Join us at the Farmstead Restaurant & Pub on December 19th at 6:30pm. As always food and drink are available before, during and after the meeting.

I thought it was the second Wednesday of the month so that means it would be today Wednesday the 8th and not this Friday the 10th? Correct me if I am wrong but I was planning on attending tonight and not Friday? Thank you.

The Molalla Steelheaders' next meeting is Thursday, January 16th at 6:30pm. We meet at the Farmstead Restaurant located at 28313 S Hwy 213, Molalla, OR. Our guest this month is professional fishing guide Brandon Glass of Team Hook-up. Brandon is one of the best fishing guides around. He has grown up learning from one of the best (his father Jack Glass) and is a fixture in the industry. Brandon will be with us talking winter steelhead and the tactics he uses to target these fish. Brandon frequents the Sandy and Clackamas rivers, so he will be well versed in answering any questions that may arise.

As always we'll have a great raffle, giving away prizes from great companies. Food and drink are available before, during and after the meeting.

The McLoughlin Chapter of Association of Northwest Steelheaders February General Meeting will be held on February 11th at Dennys, 15815 SE 82ND Dr, Clackamas in one of their Banquet rooms.

Speaker this month is Jeff Kirkman from the Sandy Chapter. He will be hosting a "how to" clinic on fishing for steelhead. This will be an open and informative meeting. For seasoned fishermen, bring your rods and gear to show how you rig up and what you use. And for those wanting to learn, bring your rods as well to see if there is something that you can improve on with gear and presentation.

Hello all! I recently moved to the tri cities area from ohio for a short term work contract. I am interested in some steel heading, king or sturgeon fishing. Any good tips on where to start or good charter captains? I have caught steelhead in the Great Lake tributaries wading but have never fished in washington. Any tips or pointers greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey steelheaders! Anyone know what the ideal river flow is for the Hoh? Looks like right now the flow is at 4400 FPS. If the rain can hold off for a few days I might head out there. What's a good range for the flow?

You are invited to the premier of “Hatchery and Wild” Wednesday,
April 2nd, 2014, at the Willamette High School Auditorium, 1801 Echo
Hollow Rd, Eugene, OR 97402 , in Eugene. Doors open at 6:30 pm,
video premier at 7 pm, followed by a panel discussion. This event is
free and open to the public, with a $5 suggested donation to help cover
the cost of the auditorium rental.
Sport, tribal and commercial fishermen and women depend on
strong salmon and steelhead runs, but rarely do they agree on
how to achieve those runs and too often work against each other.
Join us for an historic evening of putting aside our differences for
a common goal, and explore the cultural, ecological, economic
and social importance of Pacific Northwest hatcheries.
