Default shut off valve for kicker fuel

I have a boulton Sea Skiff. Mounted to the off shore bracket is a 150 hp motor and a 9.9 hp kicker. Each motor is fed from different ports on the fuel filter housing. There is a shut off valve on the port that feeds the kicker. Why is that and is that necessary. May be handy if you were out in the boat and the kicker fuel line were to break.

If there is no cutoff, and the kicker motor hose is damaged, your main motor won’t work. It won’t be able to establish a vacuum.

This happened to me once. My boat was hit in the storage lot. I found out after launching since it was dark. Not a good experience, btw.

Kicker is not used that much. Probably a good idea just before I turn the kicker off to shut that valve and run all that nasty ethanol gas out of the system. It is carburated

My boat has a fuel shutoff and a quick disconnect so I can hook the kicker to a separate tank if need be.
Also I refuse to put ethanol fuel in my boats. To me that is akin to putting ethanol in an aircraft.

I also refuse the corn. A couple years ago, I put some E10 in when I couldn't get clear gas, and I thought I used it all up before winter. I didn't, and I had a major mess after the boat sat for a couple months before springer season. I had to strip and rebuild both carbs- the main and the kicker. They were full of emulsified goo from that crap. Lesson learned.
