Default Erickson missing

Jim's raft apparently flipped today on the North Fork Nehalem. They're looking for him now...raft was found upside down...apparently a new tree down...don't know any more details yet...

I really cant take this right now. When is 2006 going to be over with?

Jim, we really love you, wherever you might be.

We really, really love you.

I just hope he's huddled up on the bank, somewhere. Erickson... cut this out, man. You are killing us.

Here's one of those "famous" hugs you used to always ask for. How I wish I could give you one, right now.

We fished the NF and as we were leaving this afternoon around 4 there was quite a bunch of sheriffs staging at the hatchery, they had a few rafts and looked like they were going to be doing a rescue.

I do not know any more than what has been said. I will post as soon as I know more. I have had several emails asking. The last word I got, it did not look good, but damm that Jim, you never know. He might be seating on the bank some where trying to decide what kind of a story to tell us. You can bet it will be a g ood one. If he does not make it, you can bet he will have a hell of a story to tell St. Peter at the golden gates. Were with you Jim.

Flipping your boat is a very unfortunate event.

Jim, as President of the North Fork Nehalem chapter of the Northwest Steelheaders, is one of our valued members and a survivor.

We ask all of you to please be safe on your angling adventures and we look forward to sitting at the table with Jim once again.

Jim,

We are both casting a long prayer line for you over here.

Even at just 8 yrs old, my daughter understands fully that finishing your life out, doing what you love, where you love, is so very important.

I don't know Jim, but with all of these great things everyone has to say about him it sounds like he is a heck of a wonderful guy. My thoughts and prayers will be with him and his family tonight.

I hope he is found safe.

I count myself among those lucky enough to take a ride with Jim, and listen to his stories. I too treasure the homemade maps I have. As a techno geek, Jim made fun of my GPS on the trip, but he took the time to tell me when to save a really good spot on the GPS.

I pray Jim is OK out of this.

today i said good bye to one of the best fishing partners ive ever known. i have fished with Jim more than a few times always learning right up to the end, casting in completley the opposite spot from where he told me to just to get a rise,,,and it worked liked a charm. he would scowl at me and try it one more time. same result. then we would call a truce and start fishing again , not to catch fish so much as that seemed to be the easy part , but just to talk and see how we were both doing that week or day,,,,didnt matter . that was the joy in being on the river ,bay ,ocean with himlong as you had a line in the water we were happy....i wont start telling my memories of jim as this would take up the rest of my life ..just remember the good times and and keep the hooks sharp !!! also i would like to thank all who have posted on here....means more than i can express I i love and will miss you DAD...Jims son........Mark Erickson

i would like to say a word about the son of jim erickson [mark]. he was so close to jim that he knew what days he would call my house for a shuttle. he is very grateful to all of you and to jim for the years that he gave him and for the time that he spent teaching him everything he knows about life, love, and fishing. this is an ode more or less to the two most important men in my life. i will miss you grandpa for the rest of my life and i will always remember how to real up as fast as i could just so you could get the next hole before someone else got Y0UR fish. and to my dad. the man who knows everything i will ever need to know about life, love, and fishing. i am proud to have erickson blood running in my veins and i will be sure that my kids grow up here just like i did. grandpa, next time i throw a line in and every time after... it will be just for you. and somehow the cruel stunts you always pulled on me dont seem to bother me quite as much anymore. cherish the good times and laugh about the bad ones. -christi erickson.- here's to life, love, and fishing. cast on grandpa, cast on.

Oh, it's so good to see so many of Jim's friends and relatives, here... talking about how wonderful a man Jim was. (Why is it so hard to say "was?" )

Anyhow... Good to see you, Larry, and give a hug to Patsy for me. I'll miss Jim's hugs so much, and I'm sure Patsy will, too.

Mark and Chris, you guys are so lucky to be relatives of such a great guy. I see alot of Jim in both of you.

It's finally sinking in for me that Jim is really gone, although I still have many moments where it's still not real. Oh, Jim! Dangit.

We need to take wonderful care of Loretta and all of Jim's family. Anything any of us can do, just say it.

J

Six years ago we lost a friend and fishing advocate. I first met Jim in early February of 1989. I had just got my drift boat in April of 1988. Jim asked me what I was going to use. I said I'd be using diver/bait and hot shots. He chuckled...I'd use eggs and slide them thru he exclaimed. You won't catch anything on those. Me being confident and self assured I dropped in w/my friend Walt (now deceased). We caught 3, one around 13#. I came back and showed Jim on our way back home. To which he laughed at himself, "I'll be damned he said, never saw any thing like it!" I earned his respect. We became good friends. Thank you to Jim and Loretta for their hospitality and hot wood stove and being kind to my little boy at the time (Brian now 17). Terry & Brian

I met Jim in 1969 or 70, when he was a member of the Sons of the Beaches 4x4 club. I was a member of the Ditch Diggers out of Gresham and an area vice prsident in the PNW4WDA. I had the opportunity to compete against Jim a few times, worked on some projects together and got to know him fairly well, altho not as well as I would have like too. Jim was a "wild man" that loved life. Of my memories one of the things I remember most is we were going toe to toe with the environmentalits over the public access to the ocean beaches and off roading in general. Jim never felt it was ameeting unless there was a fight.
We lost contact for too long until afriend was retiring and had never caught a Steelhead, we wanted to get a guided trip, even after so long there was no question who could get the job done, and he did.
I could not believe it when I heard about the accident, but you know what? God called Jim home while he was doing what he loved, where he loved to do it. God bless you Jim, rest in peace.

Had a chance to visit Loretta (1/23). All is well...she just turned 83......I stopped at the hatchery while they were removing eggs from the hens (bmr) Getting them ready to recycle. Jim would squawk at that! The NFK was at 38" and deep green.........I first met Jim and Loretta Feb 1988. Jim noticed I was using diver/bait .....he question my fishing idea.......well for my first trip I managed 3 steelhead.....when we stopped back at his house.....he exclaimed "The hell ya did!" lol
