Smile Serious question: looking for sea lions

Please oh please do not make this a bash thread, please.

I was out on the Columbia a couple of weeks ago and shot some GoPro of sea lions in the river. I posted it to Facebook and a friend's young daughter saw it I suppose. Next thing I know, I get a message asking "can me and Little go for a ride on the sea lion boat?"

Well, I certainly wouldn't want to disappoint a young lady and a boat ride with her mom would not be awful.

So, I'm looking for sea lions.

Little will be thrilled to pieces to see sea lions, the more the better, and I want to use it as an opportunity to explain all of the reasons that I think it's not good that they're here (I'm no biologist but I have been paying attention to the situation for a while now).

Was thinking it would be nice to put in at Willamette Park and tool around downtown and/or upstream of Waverly. If not, I'm willing to run the Columbia, either Gleason or Chinook Landing preferably.

Default Serious question: looking for sea lions

Best sea lion tour is Newport. Throw some crab pots and then putt aong the north water front, head in to the commercial Moorage area towards Embarcadero and you will see sea lions galore.

I know is fishermen hate them but the non fishing folks I take out always enjoy the little detour described above.

I say any kid interested and getting out and learning about nature deserves a ride even if it's to look at sea lions.

There's always some hauled out on the docks at Sport Craft, and a little free floating dock at the upper end of Sport Craft if it's still there. It's been a little later than this when we were up there bass fishing in past years. The furbags weren't concerned much by our close presence, maybe 40'?

Virtually anywhere on the Columbia below St. Helens. I fished the Goble area yesterday morning and probably saw 50. There were 6-8 hanging out in front of Trojan. May have seen one at a distance with a salmon. If you stayed out in front of Trojan long enough you might see one with a big sturgeon.

Astoria. Don't have to put the boat in the water.

Wave your fish net around and they'll find you.
