Default Free Locust Available

A little non-corona news.

The locust crisis that has now reached 10 countries could carry on to endanger millions more people, forecasters have said.

One swarm recently reported in Kenya covered an area the size of Luxembourg.

A lot of good protein there if someone could work out the logistics of harvest and processing. Use could be cattle food, pet food, fish food, and maybe even human food.

Haven't heard or seen any word in US media about it. Doesn't fit anyone's agenda I guess.

I don’t know if they would taste good. My mom grew up on a farm on the Wyoming borders in Nebraska. She said they had a grass hopper invasion one year and the chickens fed on them and the chickens and eggs both tasted awful. I know they do eat live baby locust dipped in hot sauce in Taiwan.

Good idea. Harvest logistics would be the challenge. They might provide some good wing shooting?

“In Kenya, billions-strong clouds of the insects have eaten through 800 square miles of crops and survived a weeks-long spraying campaign. They have “swept across more than 10 nations on two continents.” In parts of East Africa they “are destroying some 1.8 million metric tons of vegetation every day, enough food to feed 81 million people.

Going to be some hungry Africans later this year.

Default Free Locust Available

John the Baptist ate Locusts and wild honey....apparently because he liked them. Personally I’d need quite a bit of honey on mine. Some of that bacon wouldn’t hurt either

No horses, but does Sarah Palin singing 'Baby Got Back' in a bear costume on national TV count? End Times are here for sure.

Back in the day when Uncle Sugar assigned me to southern Ethiopia, there was a hatch of these critters. It's a sight to behold. They are three times the size of our biggest hoppers.

I think this pretty much sums up the problem.

Kidding aside, is the swarm as big as last years? The last few years that region wasn’t getting cold enough to kill a large percentage of eggs creating these mega swarms. I believe it was the Congo last year was using the military to kill the swarm. They lined their soldiers shoulder to shoulder and fired live rounds towards the swarm.

Any well versed beer connoisseur knows chocolate locusts pairs excellently with a coffee cream porter. Back to the pig pen with ye!
