Default New Kicker for the Ol NR any thoughts ??

Thinking of buying a new kicker for the North River ....just thinking about it. The boat now has a 8 hp Mariner that matches the main engine.

The kicker bolts to the transom no bracket.

Any input about size and or brands ??

Anything you couldn't live without??

Is electric start worth it??

My kicker has a LOT of hours on it still runs like a top but it did die a low idle and seemed to be flooded, wait a few mins and fires back up and runs like a top. Only did this 2 times so not really conserned but Just think it's time to look at changing it out for a new 4 stroke.

Any input would be great !!

Thanks

Paul

My North River has a 8 h.p. Yamaha & It's perfect. No frills manual start & trim.

Yamaha T8. What else would you buy? Saw some really good deals on new 2005 Yamaha kickers. PM if you want more info.

I have a Suzuki but if I was in the market for another one I would get a Yamaha. I have heard a lot of good comments about them.

I miss my old Merc. The T8 Yamaha is fine, but no way equals the convenience of the old Mercs.

I'd tune up the Mariner (Merc) and carry on.

If you do buy new... Yami T8 w/elect Tilt & elec start. It is the energizer battery of kickers. And yes, the electric start is worth it.

I've had a Johnson 9.9, Merc 8, Honda 7.5, Honda 8 and Yamaha T-8 kickers myself and fished with other folks with at least a dozen others, all brands. Hands down my favorite is my T-8 Yamaha, power tilt/electric start. Definitely worth electric start and tilt. I can't imagine buying any other kicker for any boat between 16 and 30 feet.

I've heard so many glowing testimonials about the t-8 I may have to consider changing my kicker too. I have a 15 hp 2000 honda that's really overkill for my 19' NR w/sportjet setup. I have to deploy a drogue to even approach moderately slow trolling speeds.

any one have any recent pricing info?

E,
I bought my NR just before you did. I think I met you when we went fishing with Scott. Any way we went with Yami power on both and it works great. The T8 is worth every penny. Yes you do need power tilt and electric start, you won't regret it. Good luck!
