Default Just a little help needed

I'm going under the surgery knife again at the Mayo in Scottsdale tomorrow. I fell a week ago and dislodged an already compromised thyroid. My throat became restricted and could not swallow or breathe right. They installed a feeding tube and moved the surgery date from 4 weeks waiting list to two days.
They tell me it is probably non cancerous but must come out anyway.
Anyway keep me in the good thoughts.

Didn't see this until now. Joe..post surgery. We're glad you're up and running again. Hey...have you spent enough time with the docs/hospitals to give you fodder for "Outlaws in The Surgical Wing"?

Am finally back home in my recliner chair and remote control in hand. It was quite an ordeal to say the least. Yes I prayed a lot and so did my family including my extended family. I pray every night for my good fortune and for those whose fortune is not so good.

Now I have to learn to stay upright once again.

Man I never dreamed surgery could be so invasive to the body structure at age 72! I've had several relapses and trips to the emergency room in the two weeks since release. Prior surgeries seemed like a cakewalk in comparison. I feel the prayers and support from friends and relatives. I often wish I was back in Oregon and had my good friends around me.

Anyway each day is a progression to better health and the medical care is fantastic. Thanks again. I get to have breakfast this morning at the clubhouse with my group of retired LEOs. Better get going.

Joe, I hadn't seen this. Been so busy, here at ifish!

I pray for you, regardless, daily, but I just wanted you to know that Bill and I care for you and Evelyn so very much!

I wish you were back home, too! Come visit!

Much love and many prayers,
Jennie and Bill

Thanks again for all the support and prayers. I am now considered fully recovered from the surgery. Still some stiffness but I sleep better than I have in years. Now to get back in shape. 5 weeks of laying around is not good for the body. Like the Doc said, "the couch is not your friend".

We plan to be up there in July for about a month and hope to get in some fishing. My rods are just sitting there ready to bend over.

MAYO clinic is the best place I have ever seen. I doubt we will ever leave here for that reason alone. The cancer is on the decline since last year and MAYO is the reason.

Joe --- You are truly fortunate to have the Mayo branch so close by. They are the best!

Keep on keepin' on.

Thanks Jack. I am so impressed with MAYO and if weren't for them I'd probably be back in Oregon. By the same token if it weren't for them I probably wouldn't be here period. Now I'm confused!

I'll be there in July and August. Where will you be fishing then?

Dang this Cancer! It's back or else it never left! All day at Mayo discussing alternatives and none of them are good. Just hope and pray we find one that works.

I refuse to go thru this next year like I did last year, spending all my time at the Clinic with treatments that are at best, just holding the line.

Prayer is still the best medicine and the most comforting.

I told the Doc that nothing is going to interrupt my vacation to Oregon this summer, NOTHING!

When I answered so I figured I leave it up to let you know that I still care.

Joe,

First I will say I am no doctor by any means and just offering my own advice since I have had 12 surgeries and a gsw (military service) and wife used to be RN but switched to managerial type jobs.

But moving your surgery up 4 weeks at a specialty hospital sounds a little weird without giving full explanation. Bumping it up that quick usually means they have to fix something soon.

Not trying to bum you out, just being honest from all my experiences. I wish doctors would be more honest1and stop treating us like kids.

But by God's grace and wisdom let's hope they are correct and you come out of this with flying colors is what I bet will happen.

My family and I will say a pray for you and it include a safe surgery and excellent results, plus a long and healthy life

Stay strong and remain positive. When it is all done with and recovered you then get back to the more important things like 🎣 🚣

Respectfully,

Scott.

Sorry I haven't posted or checked here for awhile. The PSA went from 27 in may to .04 last month. I'm on Xtandi that darn near killed me two years ago. I was taking 4 tabs a day at 90 bucks a tab. Thank God we have good insurance but the co pay went to $245 a month this year! I cut from 4 per day to 2 per day and cut costs in half. The pharmacy at Mayo in Rochester said it would not work! Well it did and without the seizures from overdose! Anyone know a good lawyer ? When I called about the overdosing from prior instructions they said to get off right away. In the meantime I had a pacemaker installed, just had bladder surgery to remove a stone the size of a marble and spent two days in emergency room last month when my urethra seized up! OK now but this getting old is killing me! I pray for those who are fighting their battles every day. God Bless all of you and thanks for the prayers!

Thanks again all of you. We have to go visit our Grandkids other Granddad tomorrow who is only expected to live another couple of days. He is younger than me but had severe Leukemia and blood disorder. It's hard. Another retired LEO came to dinner with us last night and cried most of the time. He lost his wife a month ago and we listened to how she had handled everything from cooking to the checking. We don't give them enough credit at times and I kept looking at my wife of 56 years. She does it all! I know I have it good in comparison and every time I start feeling ill I want to kick myself for how lucky I have been. God Bless!

I’ll bring this to the top and catch up on things. It’s been a long time and much water has gone under the bridge. We finally decided to move back to Oregon about this time last year. Put the townhome on the market expecting at least a year to sell. Sold it in two weeks and had to scramble. Luckily we had a place to live at our daughter’s in the Bay Area. Spent Thanksgiving with son and family here in Az and headed for Cal. Started a home for rent search as we are done buying. Found the perfect home on Scappoose Bay and plunked down the deposit for Jan 1. Had a nice Christmas with Daughter but tests were showing increase in cancer numbers. By the time we got settled in good old Oregon the numbers had risen higher. Was able to walk right in to Knight Cancer Institute and went on increased drug dose. Drs there advised me I could never stop the outrageously high cost pills but they immmediately stopped the upward climb. Since last February the numbers dropped 17 points and the hovered at 1 or .7. Now showing another increase necessitated an increase in the number of capsules taken daily. When I went on full dose 4 years ago I had extreme seizures and had to quit or face severe consequence. After 4 days now on maximum dose I woke up with severe pain on left lower side, unable to navigate. I have had worse pain but I can’t remember when. Heat on my hip and then on my right foot finally alleviated it some. It’s going to be interesting from here on. Do I stay on the meds that cause severe reaction or get off and ——-? I’ve fought the good fight for twelve years now and I know at 77 years I’m not going to live forever, nor do I want to. I am a believer in Jesus Christ and I believe he knows what is best for me. All I ask is you keep me in your prayers as I do each and every one suffering from pain and disease. Thanks for listening and God Bless everyone!

Joe, you've been strong, brave and inspiring through a long fight. Just hope your doctors can find a way to check the numbers and yet keep you comfortable.
Prayers sent. Either way, you are in the best of hands.

One thing I’m extremely grateful for was the opportunity to do the things on my bucket list. If I had waited til I was totally retired and into my 60s I would have missed out. I won’t list them all here but trust me when I say “I have lived to the fullest!” Sure I could have gone on cruises and foreign countries but this country has so much to offer someone like me who loves outdoors and sports associated with it. I’ll always be thankful for that. Now I can relax in my recliner, look out the window at boats heading out of Scappoose Bay for a day of fishing and say, “I did that!” Life is good!

I've encountered a lot of true wisdom on Ifish. Thanks for sharing yours, Joe.

We are organizing and getting rid of junk that accumulated. In the process I found a hand written note that I wrote in 2015 but have absolutely no recollection of doing so. It was a rough time when I was undergoing lots of surgery and mishaps.

Anyway;
Health
Stress,
Disease cannot live in a body that considers itself healed
Do not focus on the disease
Negative thoughts degrade
Focus on what you want
What you don’t want will fall away
Man becomes what he thinks about
Energy flows where attention goes,
All the things you have ever wanted
You may already have, focus on them.
We are the image and likeness of God
We are energy.

This was crudely scrawled on a piece of paper. I hope I wrote it. I think I did. My general health is good. I’m back on infusion every 6 weeks and multiples of pills. I can beat this!
