Default Fishing closed in WA.... most likely OR tomorrow.

What a joke! Really?! FV CV got pulled over by WA state police a few minutes ago. Informed fishing was closed on the WA side. When the stater came aboard to show us what the WA side was on our garmin he couldn’t find it. BTW they were using the same unit. Dads OT got kicked off too. Total B S! Okay, so two dudes are on a boat fishing... is that infecting people? More than the gas station does?! WA has lost its mind! OR to follow in a couple days according to last nights meeting. Fish the WR tomorrow, for it may be your last day for a while.

People have lost their minds.

Hey Bob, love the new pic. Europe 72 has the best Fire ever.

It was a combined meeting between OR and WA fish and game. I wasn’t there but know people who were.

So they are pushing the state line on the river...kind of surprised. But here’s my question, I’m an Oregon resident with a non resident Washington fishing license and have not purchased an Oregon fishing license for the year. Kinda hoping not to. Am I still good to fish on the Columbia for walleye as of now? We’ve been debating on it and waiting to hear back from ODFW

I sure hope you’re right. CV was ran off the river today with no explanation or options.

Maybe this is a cheesy way to get me to commit and buy a nonresident OR license so I can salmon fish the Willamette or the Mult. Channel?

Oregon has it open still. They have the Columbia closed to salmon and steelhead but open for everything else as of midnight. My question is since I’m an Oregon resident, but hold a Washington nonresident license, can I still fish the Oregon side of the Columbia for walleye?

These decisions had 0 to do with DFW staff.

The Governor of WA waved his hand and closed sport fishing in the entire state. Dumb move IMO.

OR had to close the CR because it is shared water. ODFW is keeping the rest of the state open. Although the coastal folks are still closing launch ramps to keep valley people away.

I envision a lot of pontoon boats launching roadside. Like we did with drift boats a long time ago.

I would venture the answer is no. Your license is completely closed to angling of any kind at the moment. There is no place you can fish with a WA license right now. The fact that you live in OR never gives you any extra privilege with a WA nonresident license.

That sure seems strange why you would get ran off the river, and I just saw a video on Facebook of a guide catching a fish out on the Columbia??

Nope, the video was posted within the hour. It doesn't seem right that some can fish and others cannot!!

Good on him. I bet you don’t see videos of tomorrow’s fish. Wish it wasn’t so. Infact I’m a little mad about it.

There is a lot of river miles...take that for what it’s worth

Not without an Oregon license, IMO. The ruling/news release pretty clearly states it remains open in Oregon waters for species other than salmon and steelhead. The concurrency applies to salmon, steelhead and sturgeon, but not other species...I think...

I'm going to extrapolate just a little to maybe help clarify the correct answer to your question: regardless of where you live, as a Washington license holder you cannot legally fish from the bank on the Oregon side of the river.

Does that help?

What if you just want to run the boat? Is that supposedly against the rules as well if no fishing equipment on the boat (spoken like a guy who just picked up a new boat and wants to give it a go)!

If you can find a boat ramp to launch your boat, enjoy your boating adventure!

Folks seem to think that we've all been grounded for being bad little kids. We're not grounded. We can still go outside and play. We just can't get within 6' of someone that doesn't live under the same roof.

If the ramp is open, go for it.

If they close fishing, I will still drift my river. I will just be hunting gobblers.

Um, scouting, right? (unless you're WA in which case I don't know what your season is)

Well then lay everyone off at the department and save some big time tax revenue. This is a pandemic. Department employees can now draw unemployment like every one else deemed non essential. We can use the savings to keep health care workers and their family's safe and employed. Once the pandemic subsides their will be lots of people to apply for the vacated positions.

Bank is one thing. On the water is different, and why I posed the question. In normal times, Oregon and Washington co-manage the Columbia River fisheries. So I wanted clarification with the goings on here recently and got a reply from an OSP officer that is in the fish and wildlife department here locally that I’ve known for years. He stated that you have to follow the rules/laws in which the state that you hold license of. So, being an Oregon resident without an Oregon license and having an out of state Washington license, I have to follow the Washington closure of recreational fishing. If I want to fish this upcoming weekend (which I will be) I will finally lose my battle and have to buy an Oregon license AND only fish the Oregon side of the Columbia. Oh well, at least I don’t have to buy a hatchery card yet

What BS.. stopping fish because why?

And its ok to ride the max or a bus ? You can't pass by at 3' from someone...

6' is bad enough. But I accept it, and make it work... now we have to be spoon fed.... Not a lot of thought is going into the panic.
