Default Kids could use work

Well, I have a 15 and 16 year old that is out of school for a month and just lost their restaurant jobs. I make them both pay for their cars, gas insurance etc and they have both worked at biscuits cafe since the day they turned 15.

My son (16) would be super excited to find something that he may gain some exposure to a new trade or skill. He is competent around carpentry tools as well as farm/landscape stuff. He is mechanically inclined and could bring his own tools(loaners from me) Realizable transportation of his own.

My daughter is very versed in horses and the barn life and all the chores that go with. She is great with all animals and also with children. She would love to help someone out at a fair price with childcare if needed. CPR/1st aid certified. She is also a very hard worked with general labor and loves to clean. Doesn't drive but with Mom locked out of work for at least 30 days also transportation can be arranged.

I know there are a lot of people in worse situations and maybe we should all try and refresh the job sticky. These two would just like to stay busy and self sufficient.

I heard that Costco and Amazon are both hiring for warehouse type jobs.

I imagine you have to be 18 for those. Don't know for sure, though.

Its going to be hard finding jobs for them when family income earners are also looking for work.

Had two young lads come by yesterday and want to wash a car for two dollars , I said they could wash my truck and they left to go get supplies; they came back with a new bucket full of washing supplies and a new long handled brush, I kept an eye on them as I am a little fussy about my truck and they did such a nice job ( even wiped it down ) I told them to wash the wifes car even though it didn't need it. When they finished I gave them five bucks for each vehicle and told them they did good work and should quote five bucks instead of two as they will run out of soap before they show a profit. Good to see these young guys with a little ambition.

I've been working in the veterinary space for most of my career. I think your daughter could look at something along those lines, starting out as a kennel assistant. Look for a mixed-animal practice near you and she might have some opportunities to work with the horses and cows too.

Unfortunately in today's world all of these options want you to be at least 18. Man I remember running chainsaws and running Christmas tree harvest crews at 14 and 15 now kids these days can't do anything

Very true. When I was a Practice Manager I shied away from hiring those under 18 because of some of the limitations on what they could and could not do. And it was a bit of babysitting on my part too depending on the maturity level and professionalism.

Good for you. Kids would learn a lot from earning their own money. I remember going house to house with dads mower asking if they needed their yard mowed. Then when Blackberries were ripe us kids peddled berries house to house for money. We even scooped with nets Suckers from under the Astoria flour mill and sold these by the bucket load to oriental crew members of ships loading at the port.
