The report I would want to see is what if any draws were changed.........

Cliven Bundy is validating that draw. 🤠

I’d rather have Al Bundy.

For those who have a better product/process have you submitted a proposal to the commission or state procurement office?

This isn't pistols at high noon. Of course if you do draw a rifle tag, you can use a pistol when the season opens.

Some certainly seem to think that life as we know it will end June 20.

Maybe their system is made by the same folks who run their games in the casinos?!

That assumes the application number does not change when the criteria on the application is modified.

There won’t be 10 people that ask for their random numbers. I got an email one year when it hit 3.

Maybe they are waiting until June 2nd to give them out this year.

Just give it a couple of weeks and we should have them. Then we can have fun comparing our numbers to the seed numbers until June 20th.

Read this slowly....

Your application number is different than your random number, and the random numbers are 10 digits to work in conjunction

I read and understood you fine the first time. Thanks for attempting to enlighten me. If you look at the random numbers drawn today, there are now 7 numbers rather than 10. So your random number assigned to each of your controlled hunt applications will now be 7 digits, confirmed by the licensing person i spoke to today. Whether you want to call it a random number or an application number i dont care. I understand the process. The point is they are not releasing those numbers yet, so no ability to check and make a guess on anything yet.

Ok,

So how do I figure out if we drew one or two sheep tags?

You build and test software so when the actions happen there is no doubt as to the accuracy of the results. If you have any reason to question the results after the fact, then you failed in creating and testing the software properly. These are very simple software principles. Going back to my point about financial software, if they released software that they had to question the results after the fact, they would be out of business!!!
Exactly. It is software, it should result is the same outcome every time. You have a random seed, which is now known, and application numbers, you should be able to run that 100 times in a day and it should be the same each time. If it is not, that should have been picked up on months ago.

You are 100% correct in the theoretical sense. However, I can name two states (not named Oregon) who have released bad results from a draw in the last few years. Sometimes you just need extra steps to verify.

I'm trying to figure out what would made the draw statistically invalid. I can't come up with anything statistical. Here are my thoughts on what might invalidate the draw: more tags drawn than available (for both overall and non-resident quotas), preference points not awarded correctly, inappropriate hunters were awarded tags based on seed numbers, there may be more. The point is that all of these are procedural checks (which are easily validated via software), not statistical checks.

What statistical validity are we talking about?

If I didn't draw a tag, it's wrong. If I didn't draw a tag two years in a row, it's wronger.

Whoever answered at ODFW HQ this morning seemed pretty positive individual numbers had NOT been assigned yet and would be in around a week.

Any updates on this yet? Who do we call for our random numbers?

If you put in as a party I assume that everyone in the party is then assigned the same random number for that hunt application?

i'm curious, why do people want to know what their random numbers are? I get that folks want to know if they will draw, but those results are coming. I don't want to know what my random number is because in three weeks (or so) I'll know what I drew and what I didn't.

Why get your random number now?

Because if you are in the 25% pool and your number matches or is a point or two higher you don’t need to wait until June 20th to see the results.

When I look at my applications, there is a column named Check-In Number. Is that where my (pseudo-)randomly generated number will show?

I'm not sure what you mean by (pseudo-)randomly generated number, but they may rename the column from "Check-in Number" to something like "Application Number" or they will add a new column. I would start looking for it on Monday or Tuesday next week.

Numbers have not yet been posted with your applications.

Speaking of applications, I think it would be nice if, when you applied as a party, it would show you the number of points each member brings to the party and the overall point level your party has. I've not yet found a place to submit suggestions, have you?

I was given a name when I suggested ODFW use separate random numbers for the PP side and Random side but can't find it. I'd call licensing and ask them who to contact.

I emailed the licensing manager and she was able to confirm each member of the party's PP level as well as the average for the group going into the draw. She was very helpful.

Will numbers be posted on our online controlled hunt application or do we need to call in for them as we have in the past?

Numbers won’t be available till the end of the week or Monday; they’re having to go back and work on some apps and until the data is locked down they won’t give them out.
They have been working with the vendor to add the random numbers to our accounts and that was going to be a week or two away, from last week. Either way it looks like Friday +

This may be conspiracy based and not saying this is happening but.... Wouldn't you feel better about getting your seed number before the seed drawing. The seed number drawing is random and live but what about the number they are giving you after the seed drawing?

Might be different next year......

Then the members of the public who draw the seed numbers could potentially try for numbers to help their chances of drawing. You'd be trading one conspiracy for another.

Licensing has told me our random numbers are created when you apply, on a hunt series basis. Until that computer program can look into the future and watch the seed number drawing, then bounce back to current time, I'm not concerned.

They have been working with the vendor to add the random numbers to our accounts and that was going to be a week or two away, from last week. Either way it looks like Friday +
Doesn't it seem like ODFW has more trouble than one would expect with these things? They're not programming the next shuttle launch. From what seemingly experienced software guys on here have contributed, this really shouldn't be THAT difficult but it seems ODFW runs into issues at every step along the way. Maybe I shouldn't be concerned but I'm not exactly confident in their ability to get this done either.

You mean when you buy a lottery ticket you would rather have your numbers before they draw the winning numbers?

Especially when you consider all the recent years when they said there would be a drawing, and then there never was, and we all had to hunt general seasons because there were no controlled hunts for that year.

Yep. Keep thinking ODFW's got it all figured out. You and Loper can start a fan club.

So the seed numbers are gonna be the week before the drawing. We will have been looking into this seed drawing thing since May 14. But we still don't know the answer. And we likely won't have it until we are within a week of the drawing.

All I wanna know is, did we draw one sheep tag, or two? Anyone????? Bueller? Bueller??

Well, I plan on drawing the Weneha sheep tag, so hopefully you didn’t put in for that.

My odds are bad, as I’m not someone’s wife or kid

Buddies will draw their Elk tags as anticipated, nothing for me.

Is this the 7 digit "application number" I see for each of my hunt choices when I login to my ODFW account? I hope not, cause none of them are anywhere even close to the seed numbers! LOL!

Same here. My number is below almost everything. Except Premium antelope. I'm only 4% points above. Fingers crossed!

Same

So this is the first year ive looked at seed numbers. Can someone explain how I can tell? Using the "process" posted above a little while back I'm pretty sure any app numbers that are lower than the seed numbers are almost guarantee no draw.

Am I correct? How about app numbers above the seed. What seem to be the normal differences for draw luck?

My group for Buck this year is averaging about 6pts each. The my app number is higher than the seed, but the difference between the two is 5,486,354

I put in for Pronghorn with 1 pt, but my difference is only 1,301,051

Any clarity is much appreciated.

Now that folks know their number, they will be super excited when they learn they drew what they didn't expect or very disappointed they didn't draw what they did expect.
