Default Official Tributary Springer Report Thread?

Didn't see a thread started yet and it's that time of year so here it goes. Was gonna Hit the harbor on monday but after the dismal reports decided to try my luck on a local trib. Made the right choice. Went 1 for 1 and landed a nice hatchery fish. Fish wasn't going very far either. Hooked right through the nose. Nothing special about the setup just fishing a 2oz bobber w/eggs. Go get em they're in there!

I picked up my first springer on my first trip targeting them. Not necessarily a tributary fish, but a coastal fish. My brother lost one other springer and my daughter landed a pretty nice native winter.

This is such a good hook/placement scenario. Like a ring in a bulls nose, they just go whatever direction you tell them to.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. I'm guessing its been slow for folks, and the ones who are catching fish have been keeping their mouths shut.

Took my new centerpin rod out today to go after springers. Wasn't expecting much, but with the recent rain, figured I'd give it a try. Water was up a little bit, but still pretty dang low. Didn't spot any fish.

Is this a springer jack, or a smolt? Most salmon and steelhead smolts I've seen don't have much color or spots. This one was pretty colored up, the only thing that made me wonder if it was a smolt is the parr marks.

It’s most likely a precocial male (non-migratory spawner). Google it, pretty cool evolutionary trait that can be quite common.

Way late report... (May 24th). For something a little different, a buddy and I sprung for a guided trip on a river near here that we both have fished for years. We have mostly steelhead fished this river, both from my buddy’s drift boat and the bank. Salmon fishing from a sled was definitely a nice change of pace. The guide had it dialed in. I tagged my 1st fish before 5:30 am and we were limited out with a bonus jack by 8 am. We caught 2 on diver-bait, 2 back bouncing, and 1 on bobber-eggs. It was a great way to spend the morning.

Caught one on the middle fork with the help of Josh Farnsworth. I've tried banking the McKenzie and Willie since then without anything but trout to show for it.

I picked up my second springer of the season last weekend. That puts me at 2 for 2 in four trips. It was a dark fish for a coastal June springer but it cut great. It had some girth to it with some massive bellies and collars for the grill.

The rain seemed to stir the fish up. Got this little guy at the coast this morning on sand shrimp under a bobber.
