Default Tr-1 Broken Pin

I don’t have any pics of the before, but here is the after.
I drilled out the broken pin… put in a SS screw and a few locking nuts…
I couldn’t find just the single bracket i needed , but ebay will sell you the entire cylinder bracket package for $150.00

The pin that broke has the majority of the load on it when steering.. im surprised it's less than 1/4 inch diameter!

Anyone run into this issue before?

Broke the same welded pin on my TR-1 a month ago. That part has been modified much better. Portland Marine has the improved part, $55. Easy to replace.

I have had 4 TR-1s and have broke that pin on 2. I carry all the parts to make the fix but have never broke the SS 1/4-20 bolt and washer fix.

I carry lots of spare nuts and bolts but this needed to be drilled out.. I had an extension handle that i stuck on my tiller for the rest of the day.... I cannot believe i fished on a tiller for years!!! I will never own another boat with out an autopilot system.

I am with you! It's tough to go without once you have a auto pilot.

I also came to the same conclusion.
