Default Mark Yano.updated: Memorial/Potluck Oct 15th

Today we lost a great friend of NW salmon fishing. Mark Yano passed away this morning about 11:30 from a two year battle with cancer. He battled it and lived like he had it beat, fishing and hunting with friends as much as his time and his condition allowed. Although treatment was tough at times, we should all be so lucky to live the way he lived the last couple of years of his life.

If you fish Pautzke's Fire Cure, you can thank Mark for it. The secret base recipe is his and he helped develop the final product. Every good egg fisherman who's anyone around these parts knows of Mark and would have given his right hand to get his left hand on some "Yano Cure" or better yet, Yano cured eggs. Mark was known for being maticulous about his bait and how he fished it.

**There will be a memorial gathering/potluck here in Tillamook Oct 15th. Everyone is invited. Held at Swiss Hall on 3rd st. @ 6:30PM. Bring a dish and your favorite beverage. Even a pizza or bucket of "Colonol Sanders".

We'll miss you Mark !

Very nice person and avid sportsman. I knew Mark for many years and visited him two weeks ago at the Buoy 9 Restaurant in Hammond.

I will miss him!

Sad news.....another of the "good guys" passes on. Mark always had a smile and was one of the most enthusiastic salmon anglers I ever met. He always had a new fishery he was checking out and incredible success stories to share. He could slip into a hole without you knowing it and pull chrome right out from under your nose!

We are witnessing the passing of a group of innovators who developed many of the fisheries, techniques and products today's anglers take for granted. Gary Hilton, Willie Illingsworth, Mark Yano...these guys figured it out so we could all enjoy it.

So true.

Spent time in Alaska with Mark and Gary, they were in a league by themselves.

RIP Mark, you will be missed.

LONG before I moved to Oregon in'98 I knew Mark's extended and well respected family in my home state of Hawaii. I became aware of Mark accidently thru his work in baits and thought "what a small world". Now I hear of his passing and think that not only is the world small, but very frugal in the time it gives us to tread upon it. Makes me re-commit to making my time here well used and not squandered. tom m

Looks like I will miss the gathering as I think I will be fishing up North, but I know Mark would understand.

Besides, I saw him often those last weeks, shared my fresh Tuna with him and made my peace with him leaving us.

To all his friends, enjoy the friendship and someone take a sip at the Crown Toast for me.
