What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
I just recived some extra $$$ and I going to buy a new rod for Steel head fishing.
I have been using a Lami Keni spacial, but I think it's to stiff!!!
I have looked at Buzzie's 10/20, but with the luck I have had with this 10/50, guides busting, I think maybe another Lami is in order.
What would you recommend??? ("O Yea" BAIT CASTER)

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
Assuming that you will be drift fishing:
Many will profess a Gloomis IMX 1084 is the best money can buy. I own one and it sure is good! $365 unless you can find a deal.
Others swear by the Lamiglass Titanium. I've never used one but I hear they're good. ~$390 I think.
I hear good things about the TH rods but don't own one yet. (One day I will)
Good luck and let us know what you get.

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
I've got Loomis GL2s in 1024 and 1086. I think I'd split the difference and do a 1025 if I were to do it again, probably from TH.

I have a TH 1084c on a rainshadow blank and I love it. $200 cheaper than the Loomis.

I just picked up a Lami Rogue river special. Very nice. But will it catch fish anywhere but on the Rogue?

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
If you want a versatile rod, got with a 1025, either Loomis, or for a better price, have Tom and Travis at TH wrap one up for you...great business!!
If you're a "finesse" fisherman, go lighter, such as a 9 foot rod rated for somewhere between 6-12lb.
Have fun!!

I bought a $17 Berkely 7ft rod made for walleye and it has been great. It has caught me many many steelhead. In fact, I can't remember losing any on it.

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
Check out the Lami Certified Pro's in 9'6". The X96LS, X96JC, X96MTC, depending on the power you want those are awesome choices. I fish the LS and absolutely love it, but it is light. I drift fish 20# fireline on it and oh boy it's a fun rod from the boat. If I were on the bank more, I'd be into one of the other two rods for the extra power to move fish from the bank.

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
Go with the IMX if money isn't the issue. Best rod made IMO. If you want to save some bucks look at the 1143 from different manufacturers. I have a spinning 1143 but a casting one would be nice too.

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
For under a 100$ I would go with the Fennwick 9' 8-17, Or a buzz ramsey, I use a Lami 1000 series, it works for me.. I have used shakespears and they have worked for me.. but then again, I can drift fish with a plunking rod!

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
I dont get why you need a 365 doaller loomis for chirst sakes or even a titanium just get a certified pro good rods and serivice what else to ask for you dont need to spend mor then 300$ thats just crazy i have a certifed pro and am happy with it I dont need anything more then a bend in it as for model mabe 9 ft or 9'6 i have the 9 ft X 90 HC
its just barley to heavy but i like it. X 90 HC on the page says 12-25 mines 12-30 but it still picks up what i want, as for strictly steelhead get a 10-20 or a 9'6 8-12 i just have a heavier rod cause i fish salmon and steelhead and think i should just fish one rod its all around tho

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
Id get a berkely IM7 8.5 ft 8-12 and put a curado on it. I have one and like it more than the TH1025 rainshadow or the lami G1000 1306 for driftfishing steelhead. I also got a TH1024 for my dad and a its a little nicer than the berkely but not enough for me to justify buying one for myself. I just cant say enough about the berkely rods. I would much rather have multiple berkely's so i have a rod ready for every application than just one steelhead rod. In fact i just bought a new berkely, 9ft spinning rod for steelhead.

SeanD makes good sense. But I drift with a Sage. If $$ are limited though Berkley and curado make a great match

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
i love mine keta, i would not trade it for any loomis or berkley. they are very sensive and lots of backbone, you did not give yours much of a chance with only 1 trip! i catch hundreds of fish year round on mine and they are priced right! cheap! hotslam!!

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
Pick up a Lami Certified Pro and you will think different. The guy I gave the other rod to loves it but he doesn't own anything better. The Certified Pro is much lighter and has far more sensitivity.

I am content with my North X Northwest IM6 6-17. Its sensitive and fairly light weight. Also has a lifetime warrenty with GI Joes. Caught countless amounts of fish on it. Springers and steelhead.

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
I have a titanium lamiglass and absolutly love it!!!! I also have a 2 lami certified pros one a 9'6 rated for 6-15 and a 8/6 fast action 8-17 for drift for nooks.
for a bankie i would suggest the bill herzog certified pro 10ft 8-17lb I am buying one on christmas and checked it out. This one has a very sensitive tip and a very strong but section. I will use it for chinook drift fishing because of the length, power and because it is very very sensetive.

Re: What rod would you buy for Steelhead fishing??
Lamiglass G1324T 9' 8-12, Curado BSF - should be able to get into this rig for under $300.00
If money is not a factor go with the Loomis IMX or the Lami Ti2000, but the Curado (superfree) is the best reel I've fished with
In my opinion you cant go wrong with a Lami
If funding is limited
Buzz IM7 with a ABU 5500 would be a good choice
