Default Help a new guy out?

I recently moved to KFalls and am beginning to explore more and more and have fished a couple different areas but I'm fairly new to big game hunting. I've killed a deer with my dad when I was 15, but since it's been nothing but waterfowl and upland birds.

Anyway...I got a deer tag, visited the BLM office in Medford and bought a couple maps to get some bearings(I'm somewhat reserved in trying to hunt public property just because it's foreign to me driving up a road and just hunting-though I know Oregon is like ?53%? public access).

That said, I was wondering if anyone could just point me in a direction. I would appreciate any insight on just giving me a road/area to head to and trek around. I'm not asking for your "honeyhole take it to your grave family heirloom spot". Just something that's gonna be more helpful than me just closing my eyes, pointing at the map and going! Not opposed to a couple hours driving and any other tips you have for a new guy trying to get more into deer hunting!

Thanks for anything!

What tag do you have? Is it the general buck tag or a unit on the east side?

Get OnX maps. Makes it a lot easier to hunt new places. As far as deer goes, the last week is when they are most active during rifle season.

Just a general buck tag...I'm still trying to learn more about Units and controlled tags. I'm hoping I'll know enough to apply for next year!

Awesome, thanks! I do have OnX downloaded on my phone but I wanted to wait until I got into the woods before I used it, because the inner tight ass in me wants to take advantage of the 7 day free trial, but I'm beginning to think it may be in my best interest to buy a subscription since it'll help with everything else.

The areas south and south west of Grants Pass hold a lot of blacktail. OnX hunt is a great tool to use for scouting and finding public land. I know when I did my free trial, they offered another 7 day free trail a few days after I let mine expire. You will probably find its worth it to sign up afterwards. That same area also has a lot of black bear so you may want to get a fall bear tag at the same time if you can or have the desire.
