Default Saltwater Sportsmen's Show info, any questions?

The SSS will be Feb 22, 23, Sat and Sun, at the OR State Fairgrounds in Salem. Entry fee is still the same, $20 for trade show and seminars, $10 for just trade show. PARKING IS FREE!

The trade show is about full, most vendors are returning again this year and we have some new vendors.
The following will also be there:
USCG
OSP
ODFW
NOAA
CCA

A personal note: you can save $10 on your Terrafin subscription by signing up or renewing at the SSS, something I do every year. That $10 savings is a nice way to "pay for" entry to the show.

more info coming soon

Here is a link to the OCEAN, aka Oregon Coalition for Educating ANglers. This is our group that puts on the SSS.
https://oceaned.org

This link (also available on the link above) is a direct link to the SSS website:
https://saltwatersportsmensshow.com
That's where you can find a seminar schedule and a list of vendors, also a "map" of the layout in the exhibition hall. This map will also be in the program that comes with admission to the show. This site also has a link to the auction and raffle items (at least the ones we have so far, there WILL be more)

Anyone know if there will be a life raft rep. at the show?
I’m looking for one this season, talked to Englund marine and probably taking a drive out there and look for one.

Yes sir they are some of the last of the season. On the small side, about 6 1/4" greens are 6" to 7". Will have plenty at the SSS. Thanks Gene

Don't forget to preorder your bait. We have a week before setup at the Salt Water Show. We just processed a bunch of Columbia River Smelt in V/P dozen packs on cards for $6.00 a card for early Sturgeon Fishing. Thanks Gene & Linda

Next Saturday is coming up fast. Get your calendar marked and your crew together, ride down together. Free parking across the street from the hall at the State Fairgrounds. Google maps will get you there.

Also free parking inside the gates in the paved parking lot! The inside parking gives easier access to both the trade show and the seminars.

I'll be presenting a 75 minute seminar on weather forecasting and making the go or no-go decision. Although it will include bar crossings, the emphasis will be on all the factors that must be considered. There are five of them, one for each finger.

* Bar crossing outbound in the morning
* Bar crossing inbound on the way home (tide will be different, swell may be different too)
* Sea conditions (wind and swell) beyond the bar
* Visibility - might there be fog?
* Forecast trend - what does the forecast look like 8 hours AFTER you plan to be back? Is it getting worse (possible sucker window) or getting better?

To justify a "go" decision, a captain must be satisfied that all five factors are ok. You can request a free guide to the Five Factors on my website https://www.theoceancoach.com/

The seminar is Saturday at 11:00. The rest of the time I'll be in the Ocean Coach booth so please come by and introduce yourself. I'll have water, snacks and a place to sit and relax, ask questions or tell fish stories. My 14 foot rowing wherry will be standing up against the wall, so you can check out the smallesst tuna boat in the fleet.

One of the auction prizes will be a package of four coaching sessions, customized to your exact needs. The entire show is put on by the nonprofit Oregon Coalition for Educating Anglers (OCEAN) and is 100% run by volunteers. Your auction dollars go directly to support OCEAN's conservation and education efforts.

I'll see you at the show!

There's only a few days before the Salt Water Show. Preorder your bait to pickup at the show by Thursday (2/20) afternoon. I just picked up a pallet of Red Label (Gray's Harbor) Herring. They are 5 1/2- 6", 14 fish to the card, 16 cards to the Short Case = $96.00 or 50 cards to the full case = $275.00 Nice looking stuff. Call 503-861-3693
