Default Morman cricket's

I was wondering if anyone outside of Brownlee Res used them for catfish bait. Asked on the catfish thread of a crappie forum. Got back they are not really cricket's but rather Shieldback Katydid. The Morman Cricket name come's from the Mormans of Idaho and the 1848,Miracle of the Gulls". Seem's the Mormans were losing their crops to them and Gulls moved in and ate them, saving the crops.

I found it interesting, hope some more here do too.

The pikeminow anglers mid-river and on the Snake catch plenty of channel cats while using mormon crickets. In fact, catfish and pikeminnow are about the only fish who really like them, so it limits your by-catch of peamouth, bass and sturgeon.

Nasty critters who will eat each other if you do not put food in the cricket cage. Spit black crud and bite! But they do catch fish! The #1 Pikeminnow bait!

Yup. It's a "secret" bait for pikeminnow. Some folks go fishing for 6 days and spend the 7th collecting crickets.

Great for trout over on the east side.
But never tried them for cat's.
But cat's eat everything else, so why not?
