The Portland area lacks nearby lakes (that are open year round) so a drive needs to be justified with solid Intel. I've done quite well on bass lakes in the winter even during snow storms that have springs that feed them. Sometimes all it takes is a 5 degree change to trigger hungry bass.
I'm going to start researching water treatment plants that dump into river systems...
