Theres places to shore fish but it generally sucks. Ive caught alot of bass there but you have to go up the johnday or out in the big c. Ive had better luck around the rufus dalles area from shore then there. All i really catch from shore is bluegills and little bullheads. Theres alot of pressure there.

I have been there, but it's been a long time ago. You can go up the river by boat about 7 miles if my memory serves me right. There is a park up there on the east side of the river with camp spots and stuff like that. It is only accessible by boat or float plane. Just a little bit above the park there is a set of falls in the river and that's as far as you can go. There are catfish and bass in that part of the river and we did pretty good on both when I was up there. But like I said it has been a long time and things may have changed considerably since then.

Are you going to LePage this weekend? Make sure to let us know how you did. I'm hoping to get out a couple days next week so maybe I'll try to get up that way. I bet the night's are still pretty cold. I might try hiking the rocks at government cove too, that's a little closer for a one day trip. Good luck on your trip.

We fish at the narrows, so you need a boat. We like to see 3000cfs or a little less. Higher, and the flow can be mud. Heres a link.

I went past there two weekends ago. The John Day was not to off color ie:not mud brown. As for night fishing it gets hammered near the park so I would recommend looking for some holes some where else. I always wanted to try the backwater below the dam on the Oregon side at night. The area where the water comes in from the main river looks like it could be fun at night, and I have caught some channel cats in there in the past fishing for bass.
P.S. I went further up the Columbia river and fished for a couple hours with no takers. I think I was fishing to deep but who knows, beat the heck out of mowing the lawn.
