those are some small sacks for the columbia, especially

Tons of limits, but the bigger fish are being elusive. Still some good weights coming in. You can watch the weigh-in live online at http://www.flwoutdoors.com/flwlive/

Yeah they are. Are there any largemouth up there? I know the big 'uns (SM) have been ellusive lately on the columbia but they've been starting to appear again my last trip (Bonneville on Wed - 3lbs 12oz, and a 3-0). I've been having a hard time finding fish due to the dam being closed down taking the current with it. I guess I'll have to watch the event when it airs.

There are some largemouth up here, but i can honestly say out of all the hours i've fished the columbia in and around the Tri Cities....I've never caught one. I think to find Largies you really need to get into some of the backwater sloughs and target those fish. I'm not really sure of those type of spots around TRi cities.

Was fishing for eyes below McNary Thursday when we observed the FLW camera boat violating the security zone below the dam. Tried to wave the camera boat down as he left to ask him why he thought he was allowed to go clear to the base of the spillways but he refused even to look at us, four guys in boat with camera tri-pod mounted up front. Not giving bass fishermen a good name with that kind of nonsense. Rest of boats came flying up river but they did their best to avoid the locals. Calm this AM so the leader should be able to get back to his spot out of Boardman. That camera boat just got under my skin for his brazen violation of the rules.

Us too, BrushApe, we were out Thurs and Fri and watched the boats race down stream and then return. Thursday was calm in the a.m. but the return trip was busting through a 20mph wind and white caps. We were returning to the marina from the mouth of the Umatilla and 18mph was as fast as I wanted to go through the chop when a bass boat screamed past probably going at least 50mph.

Their speed in those conditions also explains why their boats fall apart the way that they do. About half way down this page where it tells about Jason Borofka and how his engine broke off at the jack plate at 50mph. This story caught my attention because I met Jason at the Umatilla Marina one morning when he was pre-fishing the area.

And I thought I had problems with my boat this year:

Rough week … Pro Jason Borofka weighed in a couple fish worth 2-8 Thursday, but he was just happy to be able to come to the scale. On his morning run, his motor sheered off at the jack plate and caused a harrowing breakdown for him and co-angler Duane Dunstone. “We were going 50 mph when I heard a noise and looked behind me,” a visibly shaken Borofka said at weigh-in. “The motor came completely off and just went flying. It was going all by itself right next to us, flying past us. Then the cowling just exploded and came apart. We spun out of control, but we came to a stop and we were still alive, so we just laughed. It was all we could do at that point.” At this point, laughter might be the best remedy for Borofka, who’s had a rough couple of days to start the week. “Yesterday, we broke a down and couldn’t get to our spot, either,” he said. “But it was pretty exciting to watch your motor fly off your boat and explode.”

It will be a rough one today. Winds blowing in Tri City area today 20 mph. Some of the leaders might not be about to make it to Boardman Area, with some serious wave issues.
