Thanks Guys hope to be back soon. You all take care and have a great Salmon season. Hopefully there will still be some coho around by 6the time I get vertical again. Here's one more I didn't get around to posting last night.

Just a update!!! I made it through the 4 1/2 hour surgery. They took apart my ankle and moved it 1 1/2 inches back to where it belonged so it was vertical with the rest of my leg. Since the moved the ankle the had to shorten my achilles tendon. They tendon thing is what is just absolutely killing me. They gave some terrible heavy pain killers that just flat knock me out. I had to ask the wife what day of the week it was. This is the 1st time I've been coherent enough to crawl over to my desk to check in..
So I'm ok just in the most monster pain in my life. I didn't hurt this bad even when I got shot in the knee. Going to hold off on the meds just long enough to eat and finish watching the car race. Then I'm headed back to lala land. I don't even feel the ankle thing just the work the did on my tendons. That and my toes are pretty swollen and very touchy.

Achilles tendon is painful to the max. Had bone spurs on both feet which the doctor removed, called the doctor for a stronger pain med because the one he prescribed did not do anything for the pain. Speedy and full recovery for you.

Don't you just love it when you have to push your chair back and just sit there staring and have to ask yourself "Dam did I just tie that?" LOL My 1st decent fly I've tied since my surgery.

Plugs, how did you know you needed surgery for your ankle? I have done this 8 times or so over the years, this was earlier this summer. My least favorite thing in the world. I was always told to walk it off so that’s what I did lol. Probably should get it looked at, just curious what your situation was. Beautiful tys by the way, keep it up.

Mine never looked that bad but it was getting to the point where more than 4 hours on my feet would have me looking for a place where I could have tears and no one see me

Hopefully I get this cast off next week and they say I'm good and don't need any further surgery and I'll be skating a few of these babies for coho on the Kalama or the Cowlitz soon as possible

I think I'll be tying up mostly trout flies for a bit. I'm pretty much loaded up on coho and winter steelhead flies now and I'm missing day after day with this day cast on and the pain I"m still having.

I posted this picture of this exact fly after a day of fishing on the water all day hammering rainbows on a local lake one day last fall. After I posted the pic I gave the fly away to one of my buddies the next day. This morning he calls me and told me the cutties are coming in on the Cowlitz and he used this fly and caught 4 yesterday before he lost the fly in a tree somewhere behind him and couldn't get to it to get it out. After he lost the fly he switched to a psycho prince without a bead head and still was catching fish. Just giving a report from the Cowlitz, And this is part of the reason switching over to tying more trout flies for a bit Now if I can only re find the dam pattern and duplicate it a few more times LOL. They're coming in now get out there and get ya sum

I've always thought this is a ugly pattern but some guys like it. I've never tried it. Maybe someday if I'm fishing Moses Lake I might try it around some weeds for bass but other than that I don't see myself ever tying that to the end of my line.

Bucktail McGintry

Tail: Mallard and red hackle fibers mixed
Body: Alternate bands of yellow and black chenille or wool
Hackle: Brown
Wing: Grey Squirrel tail with white tips
Original wing was of turkey with white tips.
Another version wing is white calf tail topped with peacock sword fibers used for sea-run cutthroat with this version being invented by Morrie Kenton of Tacoma, WA.

NZ-Ben... When I was a kid, the Royal Coachman was a wet fly. When Lee Wulff turned it into a dry fly it became the Royal Wulff is how I understand it. It's an attractor pattern, doesn't resemble any living creature. Best fished in fast water. Brook Trout love 'em.

Nice. I was wrong about the Royal Wulff being the first dry. The Wulff was a parachute tie if I remember correctly. This goes back so many years.... haven’t kept up on it. Memory sucks.

I won't bet money on it but I'm pretty sure it went in this order by the best of my old crusty memory.
1. Royal Coachman Dry
2. Wet
3. Fan Wing
4. Trude
5. Wulff
6. Bucktail Streamer
7. California Royal Bucktail Coachman
7. Parachute
8. Stimulator

The wet fly seems to have a cazillion different variations out there other than that the rest have pretty much have stayed the same. If you'd like to see any of those patterns I'll tie ya up one.

My project for today was 1/2 doz each of the Kauffmann's Freight Train, Polar Shrimp and black Gordon patterns for one of the 5 new boxes. All done with that now I'll see what kind of trouble I can get in with a little freehand no recipe stuff LOL

Had any of you stopped at the Pritchards Western Angler Store on the Kalama River back in the hay days of fantastic steelhead and salmon fishing and can remember just what the 1st fly you purchased there was?
Mine was a Silver Hilton needing something for super low and clear conditions.
