Default Camping in June

Looking for a nice camping spot to take the family next June. Preferably with a lake and some fishing for the kiddos. Already doing Paulina in July, but the dealbreaker for June is the skeeters. Everywhere I've been in June always has skeeters.

Skeeters are a deal breaker for the wife. She swells up like a balloon immediately.

So within 4 hrs of Portland, some fishing, and no skeeters. Does it exist?

Lake Bonneville, Lake Celilo, Lake Umatilla and Lake Wallula usually have enough of a breeze so that mosquitoes are not to be found. Fishing is spectacular for various species in all those lakes.

Tent. Skeeters don't bother me. I try to tell her to will them away with her mind like I do, but it doesn't seem to work out.

No seeums bug me a LOT more than any mosquitoes.
Persistent little %$#@*%.
And they leave welts worse than skeeters.
But don't encounter them much anymore.

I’ve been to Crane Prairie a lot of times in June and mosquitoes weren’t any problem.
Quinn River Campground.

Deschutes River State Park. You could always do a day trip to the Mt. Hood area to find a lake. Or fish the backwaters of the Deschutes or off the Columbia.

Have camped at Wikiup several times in August, and no skeeters.

Unfortunately, most of the Cascade lakes will be have mosquitoes that time of year. Diamond Lake is great fishing in June and a short drive from Crater Lake. Some years no mosquitoes, other times it has been bad. Some of the coastal lakes north or south of Florence can be nice in June and tend to have less bugs. Trout fishing is usually good.

One if my favorite camping spots is Lake Billy Chinook, especially the Deschutes arm. Never had a problem with bugs yet, lots of hiking areas, fishing and so on. The park is very well kept up with nice hosts.
