Default Life in General Guidelines

Hi guys!

I created ifish "Life in General" many years ago. Its main reason for being was that on the fishing board, we'd often run into 'happy birthdays' and 'birth announcements. We were a smaller, very close knit group. We had no place to put those, and we were trying to keep ifish community "All fishing-all the time."

Thus, its intention was to have a place for fun-happy things. Nice things! It was never intended to be a place where we discussed and argued about things that divide us... politics, religion, HATE!

Now, we find that Life in General is a often a place (of trouble and sadness) where members are often edited because their passions overflow with controversial topics. NOT what we wanted!

Will you help us to get LIG back where it is supposed to be?

In the past and now deleted "fish and game" forum, we'd often have this trouble, so we created a "one strike and you are out" policy that worked rather well to keep the peace. In order to do this, we had a way to stop members from having posting rights to that forum.

Now we have that ability here on life in general.

The 'One strike rule' is now in effect, here on Life in General.

PLEASE... if you even think for a moment that something will offend someone, IT WILL! If you post something, and then think, "shoot... I wonder if this isn't a good idea to say this..." You are right! IT ISN"T A GOOD IDEA!

It's unfortunate that we have to do this, but the mods are spending 90 percent of our time here on life in general! It was either this, or close this forum down, all together.

We also pondered having the most active members here in the Life in General forum moderate it, themselves! No one would want to do that, though!! It's just NOT fun to tell someone that their post was deleted! No fun at all! Members who are edited get mad at the mods, then, and say that we are loose liberals, and the very next minute, someone calls us out as right winged wombats or whatever! Pheh! Frustrating!

So, look. It states right in the AUP, and always has... (I have hand picked a few of the relative rules that apply, here, and especially here:

If you do not agree with these rules, simply don't post on ifish! YOU signed these rules when you registered.

The moderators' primary goal is to keep the spirit of the board a tightly knit community of folks with a common interest in friendly, if sometimes barbed, banter about fishing.
We do not allow partisan politics on ifish.
There will be no name calling on the board.
We have found that discussion of things like politics, religion, abortion, legalization of marijuana and the 2nd amendment serves only to divide us at ifish. Since our goal is to bring fishing and hunting folks together, we ask that you avoid these subjects.
Public Disagreements with Administration/Staff or Guidelines
You agree that if you have questions about, or concerns with the web site policy or action of a moderator or admin, you will not post public arguments or disagreements nor attempt to petition the owner/administration to change policy through posts, polls, email, PM or any other service. If you disagree, you may respectfully post your comments in private in the feedback form.

Where is my Freedom of Speech?
Although the constitution of the US guarantees that “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech”, is not Congress. Freedom of speech rights do not extend to this privately owned web site. The AUP/Guidelines of this web site governs the behaviors and activities of the members. If you choose not to follow the guidelines agreed to during registration, the result is a disabling of your account.

Foul Language
Contrary to popular belief, this is not a public board. You are all guests here. Nothing should ever be posted here that you would not say in front of a crowd of strangers or your Mother. Don't post anything distasteful or anything you feel might offend someone else. PG-13 type language in ALL forums, including Off -Topic.
As many of you know, in addition to the discussions we have for our own benefit, we also present a showcase to the lurkers and fence-sitters. We have a word filter which will catch a few foul terms, but it is not the solution nor should it be the solution.
Using faintly disguised obscenities with creative or phonetic spelling basically shows disrespect for your hosts.
  • Inflammatory posts. A post, or statement in a post, which serves only to fire up negative emotions or generate anger will be edited or deleted at the discretion of the moderators. Multiple offenses will result in private moderation, or banning.
Personal/racial attacks. Avoid negative comments regarding individuals. Racial slurs will not be tolerated. Harassment will not be tolerated. You can disagree with other members without resorting to personal attacks.
Publicly challenging the administration and moderators rules of use. Challenging, testing, pushing, and refusal to recognize them is a problem. Please feel free to e mail your concerns to the admins.
Please know that you will lose your ability to post here, if you decide to ignore these guidelines.

Thanks and just have fun! Come here with good intention and good humor... and above all of the small print, KEEP IT CIVIL!

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Whoo hooo! What a Ride!”
