Default Free Fishing Weekend

Was just reminded of this coming weekend being free fishing weekend. Wish I'd have been reminded a couple days ago. My grandsons who are fishing with me at buoy 10 just this weekend didn't need license, tag and CRE. Shoulda known.

Glade for the heads up! I payed the ever increasing costs but will have to sit this prime fishing weekend out while all the free bee's have at it. How many free fish days do we have ??? I know that instead of buying license's many fair weather fisherman and out of state anglers can just hit it during the all the free weekend fishing dates that crowd fishing holes and camp grounds, just like a two day season on sturgeon in the Willamette brings thousands all at once.. At work I have heard fellows say they don't get a license any more because they know they can take advantage of the free fishing weekends so they reduce their fishing accordingly I was hoping ODFW could list the dates far in advance so I can schedule my fishing and camping during those times so I can skip having to contribute to odfw for my family members who fish sporadically. Used to be I would get a license then Guilt them into getting their moneys worth by going fishing more. Funny how they can devalue fishing while increasing the cost at the same time

Questions, as I am taking my oldest daughter and my oldest grandson fishing Buoy 10 on Saturday.

Can they fish for free if they are from WA State?
Do they still need a one day tag and CRE for the free fishing day?

Awesome, thanks for the heads up! I have family coming in from out of town, so now I can turn that boat ride into "hey, let's put a rod out for you and troll for a couple of hours - you might catch a salmon!" Looks like I'm fishing this weekend after all

Good to hear. So, do they need to purchase a salmon tag for this coming Saturday to be legal? I am really curious and also confident that if they do need one that most 'guests' who are fishing B10 will be clueless of this. Anyone know? I am guessing yes since they would have to have a means to record their salmon catch?

For info on the amount of free fishing weekends etc.
Bill Monroe on here posted a list earlier this year on this forum I believe.
Might want to do a quick search on here for "Free Fishing Weekends" Or something similar.

No tag, license, or endorsement needed. Still must abide by all other rules pertaining to species, size, limits, etc.

Thanks for the clarification. It just dawned on me that it sounds like, if I catch B10 salmon then I won't have to tag them as a yearly license holder?

Correct. Even if you have a tag you do not need to “tag” your catch on free fish days.

Just to confirm.... Is it free fishing weekend in Washington also on Aug 17-18?

I don't see any announcements on the WDFW site, except for the free weekend back in June.

ODFW increased the cost of a fishing license for you and is letting everyone else crowed out camp grounds, parking lots, boat launches and fishing holes for every one who doesn't contribute -free fishing day for all no less smack in the middle of prime recreation/vacation time and on the weekend. A official state holiday for fair weather fisher persons.

I am sorry for the post that I have since deleted. This is NOT a free fishing weekend for Washington state. I was certain that I read it some where but I was wrong. Sorry

The question begs it self to be answered. Is it in fact free fishing for everyone on Oregon waters regardless of gender ,race ,religion , sexual orientation or what state/country you reside in ? I think it just might be a free for all.

I think this may be backfiring on the ODFW. I know a few fair weather fisherman, that just quit buying licenses.

Thanks for the heads up. I know where I'm NOT going to be.

Unfortunately, some abuse it and feel entitled to any type of species. Take for instance tonight when a Hispanic family bonked a 6ft sturgeon and drug it up to their car, and fled before 4 Leo’s and a sheriff boat showed up. Little do they know, I quickly ran up to line of cars that were parked above them and wrote down plates.

I would think it would be a LEO hayday as most that don't fish regularly wouldn't have a clue or take the time to understand what is a leagal species, size, limit etc. Its hard enough fishing every weekend to keeping up with changes in hook rules fathom line closures of certain species and so on... looks like an opportunity for the resource to get greatly abused.

This free fishing weekend turned into a Washington mix up I would assume by the response we got attempting to get a punch cards. WDFW said yes its a no license required this weekend on the colulmbia, only a punch card. So yesterday morning my crew attempted to comply by getting punch cards. The clerk first argued this was not a free fish weekend in Washington. But I told her how it was and she finally agreed to that. However the WDFW system would not allow her to issue just the punch card. I asked her if we get stopped and checked would she vouch for us that she had tried but the system would not allow it, she said she would.

The clerk was right and it was probably the reason they couldn't print tags only.

WDFW "Free Fishing Weekend" is June 8-9, 2019, when fishing licenses are not required of anyone to fish in Washington. Free Fishing Weekend in Washington is always the first weekend after the first Monday in June.

ODFW did have a free fishing event this weekend. No licenses, tags or endorsements were required. If you wanted to fish the Columbia in jointly controlled waters you didn't need a "punch card".

This is where it starts!!! Wrong..... if you wanted to keep salmon steelhead, you’ll need a tag... heck, I think you’ll still need 1 even if you deploy your rod intending to catch a tagable fish.

It's a moot point now.
Where is your information coming from? This is a quote from ODFW. They should be the authority we refer to regarding Oregon's free fishing weekend.

"On Free Fishing Weekends, you don’t need a license to fish, crab or clam anywhere in Oregon.

That’s no license, no tag, no endorsement needed."

Looks clear to me you don't need a tag.

Can you give me a link showing you need a tag?

Here is one showing you don't. https://myodfw.com/articles/2019-fre...ays-and-events

Pretty funny when you call someone out for being wrong when your the one that's wrong. No license or TAGS are needed. You just need to follow the daily bag limit and any size restrictions for whatever species your targeting.
