Old Fenwick Repair

StickFish or anyone else on here up for task of repairing an old Fenwick? Friend gave me his late father's FS75 and FS65 along with a nice lightweight Wright & McGill and a Dam Quick 220. Unfortunately, FS75 broken below ferrule. Guides on the Fenwicks are super cool, as is the triangular case.

How close is the fit if you pull that broken piece out of the ferrule? The broken part needs to be inspected on the inside, they often split inside which means you can make a wall hanger out of it. You can straighten out a paper clip and sharpen the end and make a little 90 degree bend see if it catches on the inside.

If it isn't cracked inside, they diameter can be built up with drywall tape and epoxy paste. If your get it too big chuck it up and sand it down till it fits. Wax it up done. If it is too big you'll need to use the old part in the ferrule and make a shim from a solid glass rod on the inside. It would have to be tappered. Since you can't get 3" in each direction best you'll do is make a wall hanger.

I don't have time for something like that now, I have a number of repairs and some builds I can't get to because I injured my arm and it is uncomfortable to pinch my fingers to hold a thread.

Those spiral guides remind me of the first noodle rod that I built, around 1980. It was a 13 foot S-Glass Lami and those guides would burn thru 2 and 4 lb. test in a heartbeat. They would also groove out like they were made of butter, but they were the thing back then because of there ability to flex with the blank.

Stickfish, I feel your pain and hope you get better. I can't wrap right now, because I have a macular hole in my right eye. I have to have it operated on on the 14th and hopefully I can get most of my vision back, so I can continue building rods. 2020 sucks!

Tried pulling it out gently but decided to leave it alone until I got some expert input... so thanks for the clip tip.

It does look like it can be repaired. At least from what is visible. I would suggest and aluminum ferrule replacement.

I have some extras so PM me. No Charge if I have what you need. You would need to cut out the broken part and shorten the rod unfortunately.

Use U40 Epoxy to glue them on.
