Spent a couple hours chasing springers in spaghetti factory area yesterday, rowing solo. I might have seen a few fish on the meter, but other than that no action. Very few boats out. It was no problem maintaining social distancing at the ramp since both bays were wide open when I launched and landed. One boat said they released a native, but other than that just dead. I was grateful to be on the water after so many days cooped up inside.

I wonder how well that virus will travel on the water, flat wind. Gotta be good to go in a wet environment.

I know I am doing my part.

Between 48 & 49 degrees right now. Unless it can fly through the air from boat to boat it's going to die right away.

Three fish on in last three times out. One in the box, one disappeared after five seconds in the holder, and another lost one yesterday after a 30 second fight. Just tied up some three hook leaders, going to give them a twirl. Plug cut in rock salt brine and chopped garlic with a chartreuse flasher bouncing bottom in 20' of water.

We fished 5 rods for 5 hours yesterday from Milwaukie down to spaghetti factory... no fish, and never saw another net fly. Marked a lot of fish though, and released a bunch of smolts.

You are not missing anything... yet!

That’s a bummer. But also eases the pain of not fishing due to being laid up with a herniated disc in my lower back.

Sorry to hear Shane! Get well soon!

We fished 5 rods, 5 hours today from the garbage hole down to Dahl Beach, sandshrimp and eggs, hooked one and lost it. Saw a couple others caught (and released).

There was a pod of sea-lions that moved up river right as the tide started to run out.

There were 3-4 dozen boats out there and Meldrum Bar was pretty full.

I got very lucky yesterday in the lower channel, it was day 3 of a 3 day trip and i had only seen 2, nets in all that time for about 20 boats. I had decided i was going to fish first light to noon and call it. At 11:30 I declared last pass. At the very bottom of the run a boat next to me hooked up and landed a nice fish! So I decided to run back to the top and do it again. I finished that pass and was still feeling the chance was there. Declared last pass again and at the very bottom of the run i looked back at my rod and went damn im bouncing bottom again as I walked back to my rod it became very obvious I wasn’t bouncing bottom! Then came the joy of solo netting while shaking with excitement! I kept telling myself dont screw this up wait for the right time. Don’t screw it up! Well the fish played nice and will be going on the bbq tonight! Herring triangle on the deck 16.5 ft water depth. Thanks to the 2 guys who landed a fish to keep me fishing and to a buddy who texted me to stick with it.

Oh really? This, from the doom and gloom guy who was preaching to everyone else over the past week about how we should all cower in place, stay home, and not go fishing? :SMH:

We backtrolled one native up yesterday afternoon. Still slow, saw maybe three caught from noon - 5pm. Bankies got two that we saw!

Went out to the channel today.... barge to the Columbia.... 20 boats, not a single net flying, and only marked 5 worthy fish. First time on the channel, and it was a nice fishery if it were active. Just didn’t have the luck.

I know this is a report thread. Just wanted to give a word of encouragement to you Oregonians. You are very Blessed to be able to fish. My wife and and I were finding a great deal solace out on the the river fishing. Just the 2 of us, or me by myself. We put our boat in its slip on a tuesday, then the following thursday my wife caught a springer! Made a few more trips then got the word we were shut down. No were not going to spend 400 dollars on licences and put another 20ft boat in your waters.. I have so enjoyed the reports/storys on this thread. Thank you! Looks like we are not going to open up till April 30th. So looking like we wont get much of a springer season at all. Not writing this to whine. My purpose is for you to savor each and every moment with your family out on the water!Enjoy!

12-5 out of Willy park, no action. Checker had no fish for 16 boats, and only one river wide for the day.

6:30AM to 12:30PM Milwaukie to Hawthorne bridge trolling downriver with herring and flashers. 7:15 I released a Wild Chinook. An hour later my buddy had a drag peeler. After 6 or 7 cranks on the reel and several headshakes....POP! It came off.
Saw another boat get bit and it popped off. They were trolling upriver with 360's/spinner. He said that was the second one they had lost this morning.
Another dude in a driftboat trolling herring had a solid driveby no sticky.
The last few day's I have noticed more and more activity, nothing "White Hot" but definitely more activity.
Mid morning I got a text from Proteus503 with an invite to backtroll Oregon City around 12:30 which I gladly accepted till 5:00PM. We had one on long enough to set hook with trolling motor, get rod in hand and reel a few times then nothin'.
Back at it tomorrow at 6:30AM.

Ha! I don't think I actually like fishing enough to be on the water for 11 hours.
I've been wondering if my little two-hour morning trips are going to get me a springer, and I suspect the answer is 'no'.

Fished today between 7 and 10. Trolled over something suspended multiple times with multiple baits / flashers...couldn’t get a bite.

Question - What tide information are folks using for fishing out of St. Johns. I’m not sure this is completely accurate....

Good chance that's not a fish unless it was sitting totally still while you went over it. More likely marking some bubbles rising in current. I'm compiling a bunch of sonar shots to start a thread about how to use and read your sonar. If a fish is swimming with the boat it'll look like a streak rather than an arch.

Green and not quite as good as it’s been, 5-6ft I’d say

I save mine for truly desperate times. Too early in the season for me.

My report: 0730-1000 HOC 0/0. Water 49.7F. Heard of two caught, one of them by the F/V Underdog (as usual!). You've really got the mojo, Mr. and Mrs. Underdog.

The spring wildlife show is beginning: eagles, osprey, one sea lion lurking around. I'll take that as a good sign.

Any issues with ramp closures? The usual haunts still open?

Turbidity is sitting at 4.5. I'd call that excellent!

It is. Today was a rough day to get a bite with the rising water level. Friday or Saturday should be good so long the turbidity stays in check.

Yeah, I noticed the turbidity rising in the last several days.

I am very interested in this as well! I fished the harbor this afternoon from 2-6:30pm. One boat coming in said that they had landed one but that was it. 5 or 6 boats in the area and I saw 4-5 sea lions milling around. Be back out there Friday, fingers crossed...

At one point yesterday I had a pair of geese on one rail of the boat and a pair of mallards on the other squaking at each other. We almost had a Braveheart moment but I intervened.

As for a report, I was hopeful, as I had two chances the day before, but didn't get touched. The current was really getting it towards low slack.

This guy keeps the beggars from boarding. I think we were pretty close to having goose dinner yesterday evening.

Finally scored this morning!
(But not something I caught )

A close friend often called the Sultan of Sellwood dropped off a chunk of his first fish of the year, caught in a secret location just above a bridge named after him...said sharing it would bring him even more luck.

Cannot tell you all how that warms my heart...and our oven on Monday, wife's and my anniversary....
