Default What Brand Deck Wash down are you running??

Me-Johnson Pump Aqua Jet and on my 3rd one and I think it’s going out!!! I seem to get about 2 to 3 years out of them.....Good pump when it’s working and yes the boat is stored inside and I have never had one freeze. Only thing I can think off is I fish salt a lot. Maybe the ocean/bay water getting the best of them....I will also post on Boat tech side with questions in regards to my current problem. Thanks Derrick

I'm surprised as Johnson makes some of the best bilge pumps. Now I'm going to check whats in our boat. We fish the salt and the pump has been working since new 7 years now. Hope this doesn't jink it.

I run the same one. Only had it in the boat for about a year or so since the one before that crapped out.

I've had good success with Shurflo's pumps. I have one now which is model 2095-232-264, and another on a separate line which is current model with similar spec's (3.5 gpm, 45 psi) but I'm not sure the exact model number. The older one is going on 8 years, and it gets heavy summer-time use. I called Shurflo's customer service to get the current model number.

Hope that helps,

I have the Jabsco Hotshot 6gpm. Had a 4gpm on my last boat and it worked great. The 6gpm has some serious pressure.

Sometimes you can buy rebuild kits if it a matter of a pump diaphragm wearing out.

Jabsco 4g/m. One year old. Works adequately. If I was frequently washing decks of slimy ocean fish I would want a higher pressure pump.

Johnson, on my second one in this boat. Seems to last about 3 years before the pressure switch dies. Then a short time later the pressure drops off. Not sure if other brands are any better.

That sounds familiar. I get about two years a unit and I’m working on the trying to find the problem. I get pressure for a second or two then dies. All my pumps run they just won’t keep going.

The quickest way to kill a wash down pump is to run to small a power wire.
Another way to extend the life of the pump is install a accumulator, this smooths out the pulses and lowers the motor duty cycle.

Jabsco, 7 GPM, trouble free for 9 years, fresh and salt, never winterized. Used it to blast a sea lion sleeping on Buoy 20.
I was impressed, the sea lion not so much.

I’ll google accumulator and look into that. I’m not sure what’s up and I don’t even fish enough to be going thru pumps every two years. They get use for a week or two in the spring and about 30 days in the summer. . I can see a guide going threw em that fishes 300 days a year but not me.

Looks like a lot of the Jabsco pumps come w accumulators. Probably the reason their lasting longer.

I definitely have more room to install a pump w an accumulator now that the ETEC oil tank gone.

Are flushing the pump with any kind of cleaner? maybe that’s shortening the life?

Nope no cleaners. . I always shut down pump after done using, always only run when in the water and boat is stored inside.
I ordered another pump and will add a accumulator. Maybe I can get 3 years.

Freespool mentioned wire. It’s Willie Factory wire and assume it’s good enough. They originally installed the 1st pump in 2016.

My Johnson came with the minimum gauge wire for the pump amp draw.
Bigger is always better.

I have a 16 yr old Shurflo pump still working . I thought it was toast twice but it was the switch and another time I had to tap on it with a hammer and that got It started. Oh and another time it didn't work work for the the day with 15 tuna in the boat 3 yrs ago , thought that was it for sure and when I was ready to pull it , it worked and has ever since. couldn't get it to work that day no matter what I tried.
Now & every time I get on the boat I flip the switch see if it works and to keep it moving. I Know I'm on borrowed time.

im sure sticking a hose in the inlet hole and running some fresh water through it after using it in the salt will save a few years of life.
