I found these in my wood lot. I haven't seen these before.
They are about 1 1/2 " tall. They are in well drained soil under the canopy of firs.
I dug one up, it has a small boul, about 1/2" in diameter.
Any ideas as to what they are?
Thanks
Allen
Sorry the picture is upside down.
They're actually quite common in the spring. I see them regularly when hunting for morels. Not every year, but when the conditions are right, they are easy to find.
Normally, when I start to see them sprout, morel season is just about finished........
I'll be darned if I didn't find a few of these off of Dufer Valley Rd not to far below Hwy 35 last week. I didn't even know what terms to use in a search for them. They are odd in the fact there's no roots present. Just a tapered stem that goes about an 11/2" into the duff. I was curious if they were edible? They were barely out of the ground.
The one I dug up and replanted was coming up from what looked like a small tuber with short roots on it. Being parasitic I would think that they would absorb whatever they were feeding from. I have a lot of amanetas on my place.
I could use something like that after accidentally watching/listening to most any news program these days. I wonder if it works dried?
