Might be difficult as many oyster places don't sell in the shell oysters in the summer due to warmer water temps. Not 100 percent sure about this summer but you could call the oyster place in Oysterville, WA. When they sell the bags of oysters in the shell they are only $7 per dozen. It is 45 minute drive from Warrenton.
That old saying would have missed out on some excellent fresh netarts oysters this weekend. But they were smalls which makes a difference. The large ones full or sperm can be a little hard to handle in the summer [emoji16]
Check with Safeway (Astoria) and Fred Meyer (Warrenton). They usually have them around $10-$11/doz. If your up for an adventure pick up a WDFW Seaweed license and harvest your own in Nachotta on the public beds.
My boss had some during the summer months one year with his wife...at a local restaurant...The key is to not let them sit under a hot lamp or hot summer sun for as long as you can help it...they were sicker than dogs...
Yep just had some Netarts oysters this past weekend that I got from Jandy oysters here in Tilly. They are closed Sun/Mon and we leave Monday. Maybe I will talk to them and they can make me some arrangements to still pick some up.
Warrenton Deep Sea Crab & Fish. I don't remember if they have oysters, it has been a few years since I've been there. Always had good selection of fresh seafood, small retail seafood market right off the main drag.
We were in Long Beach for the weekend and oysterville had oysters but on the 4th they went quick. An old man not too far from there did have some but they were pretty small but did taste good. $12/doz. he did have some smoked oysters that were off the hook good but a bit pricey.
I just bought some on Sunday off the pier in Astoria right next to the Coffee Girl shop and they were great bbq and pan fried. It’s right by the Hampton hotel when you first come into Astoria coming from St.Helens
Ole Bobs in Illwaco. Call first. The place under the bridge charges tourist prices. Warenton Deep sea has had them but for me it was hit and miss. My vote would be Ole Bobs.
Ole Bobs is no more, it turned into a private residence.
Remember when in the summer months Oysters put their energy towards reproduction so what you have left is a gut sack and skinny membrane, the fatty tissue is or is on the way to being used up. Yes the Oyster is still fine to eat but your eating more gut than anything else. That's one reason very few locals have them roasting on the barbi.
If you can't find any oysters in the seaside warrenton area drive over to ocean park. You'll find local willapa bay oysters at the thirtway and jacks country store or continue north to oysterville.
Called my local oyster store and they will have some set aside for me. Said they are closed Monday but they will be in the shop. Now that is great service right there. Thanks for all of your recommendations.
Is the stores name and location a secret? Like a secret lure color or fishing spot? Maybe they have too much business and don't want more?
"Fisherman" I wonder sometimes.
