Default Hellgies for steelies

Do you guys think the steelies would go after these?

They come in bubblegum pink and other colors too. 3" and 5"

Many a Deschutes steelie has grabbed a version of the famed ‘stone fly’. My guess is that that catches fish. I’m not sure the Ned rig will be the most productive method though.

They look good to me.
I can see them being effective for surf perch as well.

Don't see why not, they go after the big stone fly nymph ties I used to do.

Yes I'm sure they will. I tied a jig a couple years back on a black head with a tight black foam body and rubber legs that were black with white stripes. I tried to make it as buggy looking as possible. Even put a split tail on it. I made it for low clear summer flows and sure enough a steelhead took it right in front of me. It looked very similar to what you posted.

If the big Bow's at Wickiup eat them I'm sure a Steelie would.
In fact I chipped my tooth going after it on my laptop screen.

They should make them out of the same stuff as gummi bears.

I gave a guy some yellow bodied bucktail caddis and the next time I saw him he said they worked great. I said something about how much fun it was to fly fish for summer steelhead. He said he didn't fish them that way, just drifted them like eggs or whatever.

Yea, a Steelhead will eat whatever you put in front of it.... if it looks edible. I think there are times when Steelhead will grab a fisherman's lead. Like when you miss a bite and can't figure out why.

I watched a summer absolutely smash my bobber on the rogue, also got one that was stuffed with darn near whole cigarettes.

Didn't I read somewhere that hatchery steelhead ate marachino cherries over other baits in a study? I know I have seen them strike some goofy baits. Spin and Glos come to mind! Funny about the fish eating cigarettes! Were they Lucky Strikes? lol

Actually it's true. In my younger days I fished thosee cherries straight from jar and summers were very cooperative in inhaling those. The all time best drifter (according to me) Bill Herzog gave me the idea in his book called 'Drift Fishing for Steelhead'. It works. If you smell those cherries closely, they smell similar to anise.

Very common up-river from you guys, one of the go to plastic baits. Not sure about the pink, but the green and purple work well.
