Hands down, Original Pancake House on SW Barbur - Apple Pancake or Mushroom Omlette. Only thing you need is a plan for where you're going to sleep it off afterwards!

I have always gotten good food at Heidi's in Gresham......but for the best omelette I have ever had.....Hales restaurant in Hillsboro. Made to order with whatever you want in it add "Spartan Sauce" on the top.. It's 2 lbs of heaven on a plate. Bacon, sausage, broccoli, mushroom, pepperjack omelette with Spartan on the top...hand me a blanky and point me towards the couch.

p.s. Hales has been recognized as having the Best Omelette in the Portland Metro area.

Fat Albert's in Sellwood...open till 2PM daily for breakfast. It is a small place, so get there early or on a weekday. Great traditional fares with a solid omlette selection.

Marcos in Hillsdale - just as good of a breakfast as Fat Albert's with perhaps the best potatoes I have ever had.

Central Oregon - no contest, it's Pilot Butte Drive In. Just about any breakfast meal is served on at least two, if not three plates! Chicken fried steak with eggs, hash browns, and choice of pancakes, biscuit, or toast/muffin. Mmmmmmm!!!! Best to have nothing planned for about an hour afterwards and have access to the Sunday paper and some restroom facilities.

For Portland area, used to enjoy the old Kruger's truck stop at Wood Village when I really wanted to get the feedbag on. Good food and plentiful portions.

If you like omelettes, Hales in Hillsboro. Order an omelette and finish the meal, I dare ya.

Camp 18 is good but the food gets cold way too fast - I've never been able to figure that out.

Otis Cafe on hwy 18 near Lincoln City is the best if you're into biscuits and gravy or potatoes... they make a killer german potato. A half order could feed 2 beyond full. Everything there is good.

Ocean Blue....you know a good omelette!

"Whites" in Salem.....I cant really explain what it is but I'm fairly certain that when you go in there and order a "Don's Big Mess" off the menu...in about 25 minutes he's gonna plop down a hot skillet (weighing about 3lbs) of everything he offers for breakfast piled high and smothered in gravy. Make sure you have a designated driver for the ride home.

LostSailor, "it maybe freespool's boat" but the goodies come from Bev.
1 package buritto size tortillas
1 package sausage links, ham, bacon or what have you. Cook and put into a large bowl
1 dozen eggs - scramble, cook and add to bowl
3 potatoes - microwave till tender, fry till crispy and add to bowl
1 can black beans - add to bowl
1 small onion - diced and sauteed, add to bowl
chedder cheese - cubed, add to bowl
salt, pepper and any other seasonings- add to bowl
this is the basic formula. Add whatever you like. Toss all ingredients together. Roll burrito style. Use all the tortillas. Roll each burrito with alluminum foil, place all in a ziplock freezer bag and freeze. They keep about 6 weeks. Of course you have to heat them on the river. We use a propane BBQ. Serve with salsa and sour cream. Makes about 10.

Fat City has changed hands a couple of times in the last few years but the breakfasts are still good. They were really really good a few years back when the Boyer family owned it and George was manning the grill.

That's what I'm thinking of. I lived around the corner after I got out of school and we spent nearly as much time there as we did at The Ship. Sometimes it felt like we left The Ship and went straight to Fat City for breakfast...

Still brings a tear to my eye that they are gone, but B. Moloch's downtown was the best restaurant in Portland for many years, in my opinion. Their salmon benedict with wood-fried baby red potatoes was the atom-bomb, in my humble but culinarily educated opinion. I can't believe they had to yuppy it up and make it into South Park. The only redemption is that (I have this from inside information) they have made roughly 1/3 the money they would have made if they had just kept it the way it was.

My place... start out with.. Ramos Fizz.. and:
Apricot Cream Cheese French Toast

Ingredients:
1 loaf of French bread, cut in 8 slices
One 8-ounce package cream cheese
1/2 cup pecans
powdered sugar
1 cup whipping cream
4 eggs
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Apricot Sauce:
One 12-ounce jar apricot preserves
1/2 cup orange juice
Make a pocket in bread slices by slicing again, but not all the way through. Mix the cream cheese with the pecans and a couple Tablespoons of the powdered sugar. Stuff the pocket in the French bread with the cream cheese mixture. Dip in the mixture of whipping cream, eggs, nutmeg, and vanilla. Grill on hot griddle and serve with apricot sauce.
Apricot Sauce: Mix apricot preserves with orange juice over low heat.

Yup, Kitchen Table is great especially since they have homemade freezer jam that they serve and you can buy to take home as well. BUT, the absolutely best place in Vancouver for breakfast is Valerie's! It's outrageous for the great food, quantity (platters), and service! You won't be able to eat it all. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Prices are about the lowest around too.

It sadden's me to report that our favorite breakfast restaurant in Gladstone Hales which has been closed to as they were reconstructing/remodeling after a fire will now be another Biscuits Café.
It is unfortunate they couldn't make it back, although they gave it a good shot.
Sunny's Diner on 82nd near Otty rd serves up breakfast and lunch mostly made from scratch, plenty of food and a wide variety.

Does anyone really make a BAD breakfast? I can't recall anyplace that I went to and said I would never come back. Dinner is a different story.

Give Renee's on Main St. in OC a shot. It's next to Clackamas Auto Parts. I don't think you will be disappointed.

My wife and I were vacationing in Kona many years ago, trying to decide on breakfast. My wife was getting tired of my hemming and hawing and made that exact same statement 'Does anyone really make a BAD breakfast?"

So we jumped into a little restaurant. My wife just ordered cereal. And it had lively little animals doing the backstroke in her milk.

So there apparently IS an answer to that question.

The only disappointing breakfast I had was at Hales in Hillsboro. I ordered hash and it looked and tasted like it was straight out the old Hormel can. I never went back.

Default Best Breakfast

Camp 18 are able to make a good breakfast. Avoid the hash if you don’t like canned.

It seems like exactly the kind of place that would make good hash but they dont bother.

Even Biscuits are able to make a decent hash. In fact I will call Biscuits the most reliable breakfast. Perfectly cromulent if unexceptional.

Babica in LO are impossible to get in. Have more luck at their Dundee location. I don’t find it particularly up to the hype, but good.

A lot of people rave about the Otis, but I have been underwhelmed, if not disappointed. The Wild Flower on the other hand is a reliable delight every time.

My fave brekfust place has gone the way of the salmon and steelhead.
In Salem. Downtown near State and Commercial or Libertad. A small place called the "Bus Stop Cafe".
This was in the early 80's, during college daze.
Best and biggest omelettes I ever encountered. They had perty near any ingrediant you could possibly want.
They even had one omelette called "The Kitchen Sink". And my GAWD! It was hugemongous. At least 2 meals in one.
Also had about any other brekfust fixin's you might want, such as pancakes, waffles, bisquits n gravy etc.
All at a very reasonable price.
Can't understand why they aren't still in business today. Think the place is now "Heartland Bread" or some such.
