I'd be thrilled just to glimpse those massive flukes.

Don't think I ever saw one in my sailing day's.
Across the big pond and back. But we did see a whale of lot of others.
Maybe not in the right waters back then.

We saw two on July 4th in 180 FOW NW of Cape Kiwanda. One was 1000 or more yards further offshore and we assumed it was a blue from the massive water spout as it exhaled. A few minutes later we had another whale surface within about 75 yards of the Dory. Another massive spout and as it rolled you could see the distinctive dorsal shape and how massive the body was. We see Gray Whales pretty much every day in and around the Pacific City area. We were all awestruck at the size and our proximity to such a huge creature. It was an incredible experience....

Saw quite a few whales over the years, but usually at a distance that a lay person wouldn't know what they w ere...but they all looked big to me.
Guys seeing and catching more BF Tuna than I can recall, and over the last several years marlin sightings are more common. One may have eve been landed in the last couple years. Everything seems to be moving northward.

Here's a YouTube of my close encounter with Blue Whales aboard my dory Evenstar a few years ago. We were returning from the tuna grounds.

Though it's not on the video, the most memorable part was when two blues abreast swam right for the boat, making 15 knots, with 8 feet of their backs above the water. It was like two mountains of charging us. They dove just 30 feet astern, and swam under the boat, their wake rocking us. It was a bucket list event I didn't know was on my bucket list.

Very cool.
Leviathans of the deep, cavorting on the surface.
Wonder how many cubic yards of used air they spout?
Makes a person feel a bit insignificant.
