Default Jet Pace boats - looking for other owners, pics, and info

I just got a 1988 24ft with a 460 in it.

Would like to talk to other owners and see some pics mods and upgrades.

I need to fix the trailer someone replaced the rollers with half assed bunks. I need pics so I can see what I need to get.

You sure the kicker motor is big enough? Nice boat looks clean.

Yah the previous owner did that to return from tuna fishing if the main engine failed.
I’m going to put a 9.9 on the other side.

Have you thought about a bow mount electric (Minn Kota Riptide) instead of a 9.9? A 112v up-front with i-Pilot would be sweet for trolling in the ocean.

That sounds like a killer set-up to me; main motor for running in and out, electric motor for trolling and the 40 hp as back-up when tuna fishing.

Try and message Grass Hopper here on Ifish. I believe he had some connection to Jet Pace. Also the Aluminum boats NW group on FB might be a good source of info.

Nice war horse there. It’s a flexible platform with very few compromises and can safely do what most boats can’t.

I ran a 1991 23’ TJ hard top with Ford 460 American Turbine jet for 15 years. How big is your gas tank? Mine averaged 2 miles/gallon or burned 8-9 gallons/hour. It was smoky at times and ran rough until warmed up, but it was reliable and handled BIG waves and current by the Astoria bridge, the Columbia Bar or up in the gorge wonderfully - A white-water Snake river boat at its core.

Even with its 112 gallon tank I wouldn’t think of taking it tuna fishing. It’s just not a long distance salt machine. It would make more sense to run the 40 as your trolling motor plan on a long slow trip and troll West at 7 mph conserving fuel and only the main to get back in quicker if needed.

One of the best tools I found to have on board was a simple $6 wood handle, steel rake with a head about 6” wide and tines about 6-7” long. It would float and with it I could reach up under the stern from the swim deck and getting my arm/shoulder wet could reach and clear the intake of kelp or sea weed obstructions which rob the boat of power and make it cavitate & keep you from planing.

It will be a great and safe boat for family to camp on, fish from and play with.

Don’t be afraid to hit your buddies up for $20-40 per trip for short fishing trips. No sense in you paying 4x what they “guess” a boatride should cost when you’re the one pumping in 80 gallons at a time, trip after trip.

In the four years/5 seasons I’ve owned my smaller 20’ TJ and Yamaha 150 4-stroke, over 630 hours engine time, it has saved me $11,200 compared to the bigger, heavier boat and V-8.

They do sound cool. They’re hard to drive perfectly straight while going at idle speed... they’re meant to run.

Yah it’s in great condition I looked at boats that were only 10 years old and they were rough!

This thing is built very well too!

I think someone replaced the axles on the trailer with straight axles instead of drop axles? There is a giant gap between the tires and the fender and I have to flip upside down a 3” drop hitch on my f350 and it is still doesn’t sit level when hooked to the truck.

Boat and a few others was made in Salmon Creek area of Clark Co. by some fishing Firemen headed by Jim Cowdrey who had his 24, "Jumbo Jet" all over the area fishing. Don't know if he is still alive, shop used to be located off 50th ave. just north of I205 now. Dave

Wasn't Thumper the builder of those boats?

His son used to be on here occasionally.

Meanchicken.net is a jet boat forum. They will know most of the 411 on the boat.
