Default LIVE CR report/ Chinook Landing....

Chinook Landing is officially full! But it looks much more crowded here on the water. A couple of fisherman spent the night above the power lines on anchor.

Have not seen any fish caught, but the tide has slowed the current considerably.

Will report back later.

It definately feels "fishy" here...

Gates are now closed at Chinook L. for boats.

I can see the first set of hoglines at Deer Island out my bedroom window. Doesn't look too crowded out there for a holiday opening. Matter of fact, it looks like a typical springer weekend day. Will take a peek at the Warrior Rock area when I run into town.

Due to other commitments, my fishing doesn't start until next Monday, please leave a couple for me.....

When I crossed the Glen Jackson this morning @ 0630 heading to work it did not look as busy as most years and I was surprised. I looked towards the airport and did not see the normal 3 hoglines (could be my eyesight). I looked East and saw 2 hog lines but they were not nearly as long as they normally are. Maybe it was still a tad early but I expected to see more boats.

That was quick..... after watching several boats drop out, then drop out again..... most of the hoglines are gone. Solitary boats here and there. Most everybody went home.........

I stopped at GI Joes last night, there was a doughball at the counter asking questions about the URB season starting today. He wanted to know what part of the river was going to be open. GI Joes guy behind the fishing counter had no idea about open areas or a fishing season

I start answering some questions for him, then I ask where he was launching? He told me has never fished the columbia and figured he would launch at Clackamette park since it is the only launch he has ever used The look on my face must have been priceless as he ponders for a second then asked me is that not a good launch? I tell him its a fine launch, just a ways from the Columbia, he then asked me how far is it from Clackamette to the Columbia like he really had no idea.

After seeing the ramp is closed, maybe Clackamette would have been a good choice and they guy had more going for him than I thought

My wife, daughter, and I went out of Scappose Bay this morning. Wasn't too bad at 6am. Rounded the corner to the Columbia about 7am and there were A LOT of boats out there.

We had our 2 Chinooks by 9:30am and back at home by 11. 27# and 20#
I am glad I went!!!

Fished in 52' of water.

On anchor from 5:30 till 4:00 near the Mouth of Sandy and also near Power Lines.

Very very Slow in this stretch !!!

Saw many rolling and marked many more but lockjaw ....

Yes there were 2 boated that we saw - period ! All Day !!

I will be heading down to the Cowlitz. Heard they had a great day.

Just reporting, I hate bad news...

Well just so everyone knows! The fish had lockjaw upriver as well. We fished Drano all day, only seeing two fish taken for about 40 boats. Then we went down to the Hamilton island ramp, and talked with a few people pulling out. One guy told me that he had only seen one fish caught all day, and heard of one other by the deadline! Slooooooooow!!!!!!!!!!!

3 Rods. Put 2 in the box with the morning ebb, plus 1 Tule let go unharmed to go up stream and stink things up a bit. 3 other drive bys. Saw lots of fish caught. Pretty good action most of the morning and early afternoon then it died. Fish finder had fish on it everytime I looked. Seems a lot are getting buy us headed your way. Tomorrow might be good in the stretches between Chinook Landing and Bonnie. Would post pics but I just got home a little while ago and I'm too pooped to pic.

Saw 15-20 caught between the mouth of the Sandy down to the dry dock below the powerlines. Tons of boats. Fished Government Island area until about 8:30 and below mouth of the sandy until 1:30. Saw no nets at Government Island area just above all the yachts.

I was one of the lucky ones below 205. A 25 lb chromer, but it was really slow. Anyone look at the barometer today? Saw eight fish taken from daylight until 2:00. Best of luck for those out there tomorrow. I have to go to work.

Not going to lie...

I was one of the first boats out. Fished wobblers on the hook aroung 205. Then trolled the crap out of mouth of the Sandy. Spinners and plugs. Went back down to 205 area. Couple fish caught both places by my friends and by those I don't know, but was one of the worst fishing days I've seen with the sheer number of fish in the river not only by the dam counts but by my Lowrance. From the west side of government to the mouth of the Sandy, there was no more than 30 fish caught all day per 500 some boats.

What the Heck happened out there?????????

The Chinook Landing stretch just flat tanked.

I think the fish Gods said

"Its Labor Day Guys, no biting"

Biggest suck day I have ever witnessed, especially with so many boats.

Oh well...congrats to the guys downriver that found success !!!

Sat on a hook on a mini-hog line by PowerLines and new gravel barge just upriver from Chinook Landing. Saw lots of boats drop out of line on the big hog line at the mouth of the Sandy pulling in fish. Counted 27 boats in that one hog line alone! Half the boat on the line I was on, caught a fish. Saw a boat on my same depth downstream catch a nice looking Salmon, so figured we better just wait it out at 29'. Fished there from 6:30 to 1:30, no happy ending for me, but made it home safely and had a nice day on the river. Some day I'll be a Salmon catcher and not just a fisher.

The zoo at the ramp did seem like organized Chaos. I was very relieved that after launching solo, my boat was still there by the time I hiked back from the parking spot. Not ideal I know, but the guy I was holding didn't sound too upset. Thanks for the patience everyone.
