Default say good bye to Marmot Dam.!

In the paper it says on tuesday they are going to start taking down the marmot dam by blasting hammers Drills and saws until the end of september to crumble the 47 foot high concrete wall down to the bed of the sandy.

If i can ill try to pit a pic of what its gonna do.

Here's a link to the Oregonian article from today. Doesn't look like the online version has the image from the front page.

Man, that sounds like quite the event to see. I hope they get some video and photos of it. Though there's no telling when the main flow will crash through when the rains come this fall.

There is a small link to a .pdf of the front page graphic. It is the "Related Documents" link, (just to the right of the byline).

Pretty exciting stuff!

It is going to be very interesting to see what happens to river when the sediments flushes through the system. It may be a few years before it is fishable again once it starts. It will be worth the wait, though..

They considered putting up a web cam and would have if there had been a data line feed out there but they determined that they couldn't. They will be posting pictures as the work proceeds though.

Channel 2 said they were going to show it live during during the mid day news at 12:03pm
I wonder how long it will take for the river to recover from the dam?
I really hope it's not 50yrs from now

My bet is 4 years until it is clear for the majority of the year. The good news is that there is a lot of spawning gravel that is going to come down. Lets hope the silt blows all the way out to the Columbia in one winter making the new gravel usable for the fish. This is going to be one interesting experiment.

I remember fishing at the boat ramp at Oxbow ankle deep in mud that year shortly after the event but it cleared in about two weeks. I would be surprised if it's anywhere near the effects of the river resuming its natural channel at Old Maid Flats up in Zigzag last winter.

The rains came down and the floods came up. The rains came down and the floods came up. The rains came down and the floods came up and the house on the rock stood firm.

I'm not aware of anything as big as Marmot that's come down yet. The dam(s) on the Elwha will be but are still somewhere in the preliminary part of the process, last I read.

The way the sandy fluctuates, I would be suprised to see that river getting any worse... It is a good thing and I think the Sandy will recover quickly. One good rainy blow out and the river will find its new shape.
