And we saw a chinook surfacing with a red shortbus flasher in tow. I think that was near the bottom of desdemona sands or chinook.

Good day today, ended with 4 chinook and 2 coho. Ran back and forth across the river a couple times today chasing the fish and found them throughout the water column but most bites were 25-30 foot on the line counters.

2 rods. 3 for 12. Lol. Oh well. All bites between 7 and 9ish. Many lost at boat. Many nice fish!!! Kept boat in gear, kept line tight, and I always run 3 hook barbless rig. Just one of those days. Also one fish knocked off. Most action was chinook with a couple of coho mixed in. Anchovies.

Thursday and Friday report. Fished both days the same way just an hour different due to the tides. Started both days at the shipwreck and trolled down to meet the push in front of ilwaco.

Had a few grabs each troll out, I'm trying to stay on the shallow side of the sands around 24ft has been the most productive, never made it up to the buoy ten area. Worked back upstream with the push in front of chinook. Crossed over to the sands after the first few rips made it through. We generally got a few fish each push and plenty of coho with each new tide. Then trolled uphill with the tide on the Washington side of the sands. We got our chinook each day. The grade has been sporadic from shakers to mid twenties.

Gear is lead on the ebb, divers on the hard push until I hit the sands then item back to lead. I fished 12oz all day. All rods had shortbus flashers sweet Abby and electric pole dancer. One for fished a spinner the others had herring. Herring is out fishing spinners by a wide margin.

Great report Bait Boy.

Taking the weekend off to smoke fish.

Yea , herring seems to be outfishing everything else. I won't be putting a spinner in the water without a few good reports that they're actually working 50/50 or better against bait, or behind a dodger when targeting silvers.

Ran out of Krill powder for the brine so dipped into the bottle of Bloody Tuna, sticking with it till the trend changes.

A 50 inch leader length has been outfishing shorter leaders, 3 to 1. Sticking with that till the trend changes.

Pole Dancer getting it done. Sticking with that till the trend changes.

When fishing suspended over deep water, 34 to 40 feet of line on the counter doing best. Not afraid to go a little deeper.

Hoping I could get a few simple questions answered from some of you that fish the Astoria a lot. I've fished try the bridge a few times and caught fish. I know its mostly a tide show. I was told that the fish are always facing into the current which makes sense. So, my question is when its an outgoing current are you guys following them to the mouth and then back upriver on the high? I'm assuming on the slack they are milling around. Man, sorry for the basic questions I'm trying to wrap my head around the fishery there just to understand a few things.

Over the bar straight to the green can , 12 silvers , did not matter what flasher, color, herring fresh, or not. Bagged 10 keepers in an hour. At Hammond 65' mark 20 oz. 50 pulls , Skateboard, with blue label CP. Resulted in 38 pounder not a bad day .

I troll with the tide in most cases. I will turn around and face into the current at certain times and places. the first push when fishing the buoy line and the first mile of tide say up to chinook. I'm looking to get my bait in front of all of the fish coming into the river so, I forward troll backwards to maintain the angle I'm looking for on my line. the other time is at the bridge as it is a current break, and a fish congregating area.

Basically high tide fish further up, and low tide further toward the mouth.

Went out to the boat this afternoon, 3 ish, to do some tackle cleanup and other insignificant stuff. Stopped to say hi to Cameron Black as I was leaving. Showed me a fish in his fish box, quite a specimen, probably close to 38. Guides, most everyone having a tough day. Either ya got 'em, or ya didn't.

Lotsa boats above the bridge, probably dodging the wind. Haven't a clue if any fish were caught, maybe someone will post.

Lotsa fish in the system, getting them to bite is a challenge. Dunno what affect the water temp is having. Doesn't seem all that warm to me. East side temps seem below normal???

Expect fishing tomorrow to be a challenge, wind is forecast to blow. If you're making a long drive, think twice.

Gotta go.....

Hot to cold in one day for us. Friday was a 6 fish day with 4 nice Kings and a pair of small coho. Three broad shouldered Tules gave us a nice runs to break up the day. Saturday we slept in because of the late tide and started at the crack of 9am, big mistake we should have fished the early outgoing. Multiple buddies calling before we made the ramp with their kings done and looking for coho. We on the other hand only scraped up 6 take downs with one king to show for it. Ended the day before the top of the incoming, just to much to do at home to stay longer

3 rods. Started am till 2. Fished everywhere ! 10 for 15. Better land ratio today. Fresh chovies. 2 URB's kept and 4 coho. 1 tule released 3 Nat coho released. Others lost at boat. Fish caught on the flood where at various depths from 15 poles to 30 poles. All the fish caught on the ebb where on bottom trolling downhill. One more day and done. Been a decent year and should only get better.

Launched in my buddies boat around 6:30 ish. Fished through the incoming tide. Slooooow. But, just like any other day, some guys did well but my report is it was very spotty today, not just for us but for many. Action was very scattered sporadic.
I heard they did well just outside Hammond but don't bank on it. Conditions change daily.

Go fish!

Sean Sparling took his first chinook, a 23lbs, taken while trolling a Winner colored Fish Flash in combination with a herring on Aug 14th. Randy told me the fishing is really good. His boat is limiting on chinook most every day. Water temp at Buoy 10 seems near normal.

Went out today with some buddies and the wife. The bite was real spotty for us today. Less than 5 mins into the First pass of the morning up by shipwreck my rod pegs. I neglected to even offer the fish to my wife and in came a decent chinook off an anchovie. We are all pretty pumped thinks today was going to be stellar. End up not getting another fish until several passes late. Turns out we miss placed our 40lb leader and the scrap piece we had in the boat failed, cause us to break off everything form the rigging back. Next up Dave hooks up on a hard take down. He is nice enough to hand the rod off to my wife who wins a Very nice chinook. Several other missed fish and a few feeders and one wild coho when our captain and most crew about crapped themselves. We had a small pod of whales surface about 30-50' away from the boat. No one in the boat had seen them until they blew right beside us. Pretty neat for all to see.
We also won the fight from a harbor seal today that tried to steal one of our chinook. We ended the day with 7 chinook (all clipped if you can believe that) and 1 coho for 7 rods. We also broke another one off, I crackered one off , and missed several. We got fish every where, and never really had consistent bite until right at 3 upstream of shipwreck where we landed 4 pretty darn fast. All except the one chinook was on herring, and all but one coho and two chinook were in lead.

8-15-15 report. Took my 15 year old son and one of his friends yesterday. Started at 6 am trolling downhill with tide on the green line from in front of Hammond to a half mile below the checkerboard. One driveby and got a call from a buddy. I dont usually chase cell phone bites at B10 but decided to move to WA side anyways. Good move, tagged on 3 Chinook by 9:30 am dragging bottom in 35-40 fow from the Fort down. Looked for coho for a couple of hours holding in the incoming by B20 but its clear that not a lot of fish pushed in even though these tides are big.

My grandma has been putting the pressure on me for over a year to get her into a fish so the pressure was on.

She did great but the fish did not cooperate. We had two bites that did not stick. I will get some payback later this week.

Still was a great day with the family.

Friday, 2 for 7 all in morning near checker board. Lost or released rest above bridge.

Saturday 1 for 9.....I'm lost for words......except barbless.

Sunday 1 native coho, before making the drive home. Didn't see any nooks netted from Hammon to ss beach on our drift.

Let's say the boys who ran west did very well.

It was "part" of a double so to speak. Lol

Second pass above the bridge. .. Hit a double...
Landed the first fish (keeper coho) then was en route to chase down the king... but Mr. River lion got there before we could.

We couldn't buy a bite.... Ok, had one bait theft below the bridge on the sands, but by the time the water temp dropped the wind made it impossible to fish effectively. Looking forward to a better tide series.

Our hooked to lost ratio has been pretty good this season. Running Gammi Big River sickle hooks w/ pinched barbs, Okuma SST 9' "Salmon" rods, and Tekota's w/ braid we've lost maybe 20% of the fish we've hooked. We have been going small (2/0) on the sickles, based on the theory that they get inhaled a little deeper in the fish's mouth. We run cheap 3/0 hooks for the tow hook at the front of the leader.

Default 2015 Official Buoy 10 thread Part ll

I cannot tell you how sorry and disappointed we are to have lost the b-10 thread! Tragic. But, no one did it on purpose and the person who hit the button is terribly sorry. It's not even their fault, though, doesn't sound like.
Regardless, what is done is done. They are still trying to find it in a backup.

Until then, we are just going on with B-10 part ll! If we find it, we'll delete the attachments and merge these two threads as normal.

The attachments below, are thanks to Swifty27 and his cache! YAY! Thank you!

All first timers we went out with Grant Scheele yesterday, 8/18. Had an awesome time.

Awesome catch! Bill went out yesterday and didn't do as well as that! (Don't tell him I said so!)

Thank you SO much for getting this thing going! Let's rock this B-10 thread! I was enjoying it SO much!

Well lets get this going...

Just fish with the tide, the fish are here!
We boated limits of Kings on: 7/11, 7/12, 7/18, 7/25, 7/26, 8/7, 8/8, 8/9, 8/14, 8/15. With a few Coho on half of our trips after the 8/1 opener and a couple limits of ocean Coho in July. I mostly fish buoy 10 to Sand Island trolling plug cut herring with the tide for Chinook and anchovies and spinners for Coho.

Got this report from Randy Woolsey:

"We boated 5 chinook before 7AM today.
Buoy 10 is on fire! The spinner bite turned on with White red dot Mulkey spinner being our top producer.. The Fish Flash that's been hot is the BMK (Bill Monroe Killer) in the 10 inch size.
Below is photo of Brian Walter with his chinook."

Fished the ebb from the top end of blind all the way to Desdemona sands. Saw very few nets all through the ebb. Got up by the sands light on the slack and poles started to bend. Finished up off buoy 10. Anchovies or cuts, we had bites on it all.

We're gonna try that early bite trick off the sawdust pile in the AM. Hoping for a pancake morning... (early limits and early back in).

Didn't take it too serious yesterday, fishing alone. Got to the boat when I got there, don't remember the time, 7 something. Released a micro 'nook at the top of the first pass and boated a clipped silver at the bottom. Ran back up to the top, dropped in, went 50 ft, okay nook went in the bleed bucket.

Today, rolled outa the sack at 6:15, fiddled around, went up to Safeway to get a paper while the coffee pot was doing it's thing. Read the rag, sipped the black stuff...... Got on the boat and fiddled around some more getting it ready, waited for partner to show up. Might have left the dock at 10:30? Partner had a driveby, then lost a Silver when it went wild with a seal chasing it, then he boated a hatchery fish. I had a couple of light takedowns then landed a clipped Silver around 10 lbs at 1:30.

Anyone else notice the idiot dropping crab pots below 22? Told him to "pull 'em in and take them over toward shore where everyone else had theirs. This is a fishing area, not a crabbing area. Yer gunna Pi--o-- a lot of people if ya leave 'em there." It was a big Hewes with red paint.

Ha ha.... He had a couple of "sons" out on the deck dropping the gear but dad or somebody, came out of the cabin when I started yelling. He didn't say anything but the look on his face said he knew they were in trouble. I didn't swear at them but they knew I was serious.

Here is the 3 day report: each day we started at first light up above the bridge, quite a ways above shipwreck and followed the tide out. Each morning we had our fish by 8am trolling a mixture of cut plug herring and super cut plugs filled with leftover fresh anchovies that we mashed up. For the cut plugs we got hit on every color we tried but the more natural presentations seemed to prevail. The bite is lasting longer and longer each day above the bridge now with the tides getting later. Also, the quality of fish was amazing with 5 fish going 24# or more over the 3 day span. We tried to stay between 26ft and 34ft. With 12-16oz of lead right on the bottom. Finally flasher color did matter! Our hottest rods were different variations of red/uv or the electric pole dancer. We're back at it on Friday for some awesome tides! We will report back after our next stay.

Tight lines- Team Dusky

Just had time this eve to launch about 6:30 out of East Mooring Basin. Not 5 minutes into into it, Jeremy nailed this one. 40 ft water, with flash, cut plug, brined green label, with green color. Hope it's the star of a good few days!
