Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteer Opportunity!!

To STEP Volunteers:

Leroy needs help delivery fish eggs to the classroom incubation tanks this Thursday - Feb 2 at 8 am. We will be meeting at Hillsboro's Home Depot Parking lot off TV HWY near Sunset Esplanade Shopping center.

No experience needed and this is great fun!!! In my view this activity ranks almost as high as catching a big fish. These kids get very excited about having our members deliver eggs. You do not have to talk in front of the class, though they love hearing fishing stories. So take time from your busy life and spend an hour or two doing something really rewarding. I guarantee you will have fun!!!

Leroy will pair up the teams to deliver the eggs to local schools.

These kids are the future of our sport -- we need to get them excited about fishing and Fish!!

Please email or call Leroy at 503-648-6871.

Thanks
Tom VanderPlaat

I had a wonderful time walking around the show yesterday with Russell and Kristin and the two "Future Steelheaders" thanking all of our fabulous business sponsors and supporters, as well as working to establish connections with other sponsors.

I just want to remind everyone that while you're out and about, swing by the two Northwest Steelheaders booths, booth 1412 in the Hall A, and booth 504 behind the Adair Homes display in Hall D., and say hello. Booth 504 has a replica of the boat we're raffling off, as well as tickets for the Alaska trip. They're also signing people up for show special memberships.

$20 for a yearly membership to the Steelheaders at the show! For $20 you get a membership and Northwest Steelheaders bag. For $25 you get a bag and a towel and a yearly membership, for $30 you get a "50 Years Working for Fish" hat, towel and bag, and your membership!

What a Great deal!

Also - don't forget the knife sharpening in the Fred Meyer booth near the Breezeway between halls C and D by the Fast Draw competition. $3.00 to have your knife professionally sharpened, and 100% of the proceeds go to the Northwest Steelheaders.

Enjoy the show!

What a great meeting last night in Salem!!

Kelly Short gave a fabulous Springer presentation, one of the best I've listened to, and gave away an incredible Castaway Triple S rod. The winner of the sweet new Castaway (one of the last few produced due to company sale) was one of our charter members, as well as our oldest member in the chapter at 90+, Mike Huddleston.

Now he's got to get himself a Springer on that puppy. :) Thanks to all that attended, it was a packed house - literally standing room only. We counted right around 100 in attendance.

Huge thanks to Kelly, and of course a huge thanks to all of those who continue to support the Northwest Steelheaders.

Cheers,

Hey Everybody - just letting those of you in the Eugene area know that there will be a FREE Columbia/Willamette Spring Chinook seminar at Mazama Sporting Goods on Thursday, March 8th at 6:30-8:00pm.

The speaker will be Curt Currey, the owner/operator of Currey Guide Service, and while I'm not 100% sure this is a 'Steelheader Event' so to speak - Curt has been very good to the Salem Chapter in the past, and we always like to pay it forward. Curt knows his stuff, and it will be very worthwhile for those of you in the Eugene area.

Check it out!

Attention - Portco users this Saturday 3/24

This Saturday (3/24), Columbia River Steelheaders, in partnership with the Vancouver Wildlife league and the Wounded Veterans program will be hosting a fishing event to help provide a much needed day of peace for some soldiers who are returning to us from deployments to the middle east. This is an event we have been putting together for some time now, and we are preparing for what we hope is a great day on the water honoring those who have given so much to our country.

Our goal is to create a peaceful, enjoyable, and safe day of springer fishing to help out those who have served us in the middle east. We will be taking 40 returning soldiers out for Springers on Saturday.

We know tensions have a habit of getting high at boat ramps, especially this one during the peak of springer season, but we ask for everyone's respect and patience this Saturday at Portco. We will be launching and loading 20 boats with 40 soldiers between 6-7am. The City of Vancouver, WDFW, and the Vancouver Police department are graciously assisting and have offered us all the permits, first priority at the boat ramp, and the parking lot. VPD will be marking off a designated area for our boat trailers. We humbly ask for as much cooperation as possible.

If you need to contact our group on Saturday on the water, we will be monitoring VHF channel 68.

For more details see our website at http://www.crsteelheaders.org

Thanks,

Brian

The Molalla River chapter of the NW Steelheaders Association will be meeting Thursday, April 19th at 6:30pm at the Farmstead Restaurant at the Arrowhead Golf Course in Molalla, OR
At this month's meetings guide Ed Fast will be presenting a lot of information regarding spring chinook planting size, planting locations, run timing, run size (and more) for numerous streams in the Willamette basin (and Sandy River). The most important aspect to catching salmon/steelhead is to fish for them when they are actually in the river.
Hope everyone can make it out. You are welcome to purchase dinner/drinks during the presentations. Meeting is open to the public.

Molalla River Spring Cleanup

Join the Steelheaders Molalla River Chapter, Molalla RiverWatch and others for a day of meaniful activity, healthy exercise, and likely viewing of wild winter steelhead spawning. The annual river spring cleanup begins at 9 am on Saturday, April 28 at... Feyrer Park, just southeast of Molalla on Feyrer Park Road.

Volunteers will disperse up and down the beautiful Molalla River Corridor for river cleanup activities, restoration tree planting, or trailwork on the shared-use non-motorized trail system. We'll return to the park for a volunteer appreciation BBQ. Activities include: illegal dumpsite cleanup, tree planting, invasive plant removal, litter pickup, mulching around plants, and trail work.
