An (educated) guess on my part; he got a MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infection. Unless I'm much mistaken, once you test positive for it, you'll always test positive, similar to testing positive for TB even if you had it 50 or more years ago. It doesn't mean you're incapable of resuming "normal" life! I see patients on literally a daily basis with a "history of" MRSA. To say he was "injured", "disabled", or "incapacitated" from MRSA (again, this is speculation on my part) is plain and utter nonsense! In any busy grocery store, there will be at least a few and possibly several people with a "history of MRSA" going about their daily lives. This case sounds like abject abuse of "the system" to me.
