Any helpfull lab breeding tips ?
Trying to mate up an AKC english pair.Second attempt now coming into season.Short story...He (9, never bred, willing,
not sure how)She (2+ third heat, jumpy, runs him till he is out of energy before she stands.)Try as they might,no link up.I know this sounds like a personal problem and no I don't think Viagra is in order.I just want a pup to hunt with when my pal packs it in.
Serious suggestion please.Times running out.

I find that a couple of glasses of wine really helps to get em relaxed and in the mood.
A little chet baker on the radio, and the lights dimmed...
Nice

Seriously, confine the two of them in a dog run while she is clear and ready.
Now,if he still doesnt get it he either has no game or she doesnt like his teeth and its time to bring in an American to get the job done.

Re: Any helpfull lab breeding tips ?
You guys are killing me....I second the inquiry about coffee in the key board. So, I guess my only advice would be...
Maybe a little Dr. Phil intervention?
O.k...I am not a dog breeder but maybe look one up in your favorite gun dog magazine or in the phone book and ask 'em. I'm sure they'll help you up. Sounds like the major issue is the poor guy is being run to death before she finally concedes to his passes. The Brits never had much game, always asking us to bail 'em out.

Re: Any helpfull lab breeding tips ?
I agree with the confinment, she won't be able to run him ragged. I have talked to a couple of breeders and they all admitted that with a younger "she dog" they would control her and assist with the mounting, 3 out of the 5 I've talked to said they would even control the lock-up! :lurk: :lurk: Hope this helps!

Agree that you will probably need to restrain the bit....female and may need to help him figure out which end is up......

That boy needs help. He fetches for you and you won't at least hold onto his girlfriend.
Probably don't deserve to have a dog.

Check with your vet. He / she most likley has been through this many times before. As a last resort, he can use the male to A-I the female. I had to do that one time and was pleased with the results.
