Default ODFW reissues tag because meat's unfit

I heard that ODFW reissued a tag to a hunter because the animal might not be safe to consume. They requested that the head be given to them for further testing of brain and fluids. As soon as I hear the results I will follow up on it but, these things take a bit of time.
I guess the Rosevelt cow was in really poor shape with degenerated musculature. ODFW had them dump the meat in the forest. Does that sound like a good thing to do? What if this is something that can be transmitted. I doubt that it will be dumped in the same area that it was harvested.

I'd be interested in some details on this as well. If true...and it's still hearsay...the meat isn't the problem and is probably safe to discard. The diseases they're looking for are in the brain and spinal cord.

Yah, They have been doing some testing in the Blues to see if they find any signs of cronic waisting disese. I have been told by ODFW that the only animals they have found to cary it was the mule deer. They asked me to take a sample from elk. Never got one to test. :depressed:

Also if you kill an animal that they feel is spoiled or fevered, they will and do revalidate your tag.

I killed a bull that had a broad head in its rump. All the meat smelled sour and the elk was fevered. The OSP officer came by camp while I was skinning the elk. One whiff and the about lost his lunch!! He told me to get rid of it and reisued me my tag. I was really shocked. I had no idea they would do that.
